It is a misdemeanor in Florida to keep or misplace a firearm where a child can have easy access.

The basis for this is that a child will simply employ the gun as suggested by its ergonomics. It's well designed to be fired and the child is considered to be unable to discern between right and wrong. So why aren't there universal tests for all gun buyers to determine whether each is capable of discerning between right and wrong ? There should be- and such tests should be frequently repeated. People's mental health is not a constant.
