I'm inspired to discuss this due to the story regarding the reports of African-American students lagging in the UC system due to the absence of affirmative action you can read the story here:

http://www.daytodaynews.com/usa-new...n-admissions-to-university-of-california.html

According to the article, approximately "percent οf black students finish thеіr degrees, thе lowest rate amongst οthеr secular groups, thе investigate ѕhοwеd."

When I read some of the comments of the article the overwhelming response was "this is what happens when you have to earn your way to get in."

However, the article did cite that "Budget cuts hаνе аlѕο played a role, pulling fee output aloft аnd tying space, mаkіng іt some-more rival tο gеt іn."

Which is common in the state of California as UC and CSU tutition is going up to compensate for the budget. What upsets me is that the ones that are talking the loudest are those who have never went to college and are merely commenting on the sidelines. These individuals never see factors such as budget, parking, medical expenses and teaching salaries all play an important part in admission. Then of course the idea of the "Protestant Work Ethic" of when you work hard it benefits society.

Nobody pays attention to the underlining factors of the fall out of why college educated black students are not doing as well as their Latino and Asian counter-parts.

Almost all of those bitching about education here have never been to college!

Not trying to put words in your mouth but are you suggesting this shows we need affirmative action?

Are you suggesting we ever haven't needed it!

What's your goal? This article said "percent οf black students finish thеіr degrees, thе lowest rate amongst οthеr secular groups." Is it more advantageous to go to a UC and not graduate or go to a lower level school and graduate?
