Yep, Mamdani hired an illegal alien onto his staff and is now outraged, outraged I tell you, that that person has been arrested by ICE!

A New York City Council employee was detained during a "routine" immigration appointment on Long Island on Monday, according to city officials.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin identified the employee in a statement Monday night as Rafael Andres Rubio Bohorquez, whom she alleged is a "criminal illegal alien from Venezuela."

The Department of Homeland Security defended the arrest late Monday, saying the employee is in the U.S. illegally and has an alleged criminal history that includes an arrest for assault.

Ah, the old DHS is lying ploy! Of course, DHS and ICE always lie but the perp and his partisans never do.

Given the visibility of this, I would expect proof one way or the other to show up in the next 48 hours or so. Mamdani's staff says this person "signed a statement that they had never been arrested..." Yea, like people don't lie on official documents...

No, it is merely illustrative as an example. People lie on official documents. I would think any reasonable person would agree that does happen, however rare or common it may be. To simply take a person's word for it one way or the other would be foolish.

There is NO dispute that this person on Mamdani's staff was in the US illegally because he overstayed a B2 tourist visa back in 2017 and remained in the US ever since. Even his staff admits that. Their defense of him is he was granted temporary protected status under Biden--since revoked by Trump--and that means he shouldn't have been detained / arrested.

DHS / ICE's version of this is he committed assault at some point between 2017 and present and was arrested for it. They haven't produced evidence, yet, of this. That they claim is sufficient to arrest / detain him and begin deportation proceedings against him.

If ICE does produce such evidence, should this man be deported?

First of all, he has been working for a year, but Mamdani has only been mayor for two weeks, so he did not hire the man.

The man had work papers while his asylum case was heard, so not an illegal alien. He is showing up to court dates, so not a flight risk.

He came to the US legally on a B2 tourist visa, and then applied for asylum getting a temporary asylum visa. At no point did his visa lapse. Technically he did not overstay his visa, because he got a new visa before the old one lapsed.

It is normal for someone to switch visas. That is not illegal, and in fact he did it in the legal way. There is no dispute he is here legally.

Not what they say. They claim at some point he has been arrested for assault. NYC would have known had he ever been convicted of something in the State of New York, so that does not appear to have happened.

That leaves three probable possibilities:
1) He was arrested for assault, but they could not prove that he committed assault. They may well have proven him innocent.
2) The assault allegation comes from Venezuela. This is common for people Venezuela wants back to murder.
3) It simply is untrue.

Again, no. If they have the evidence, they have the right to present it at the next court hearing. They even have the right to move up the next court hearing. But an allegation with no evidence is not enough to arrest anyone.
