Media slams GDP boom: ‘Don’t buy it,’ ‘blip,’ ‘too big’

The media Friday went into overdrive to downplay the 4.1 percent surge in economic growth, calling it a blip not even worth writing about.

Even before President Trump could officially herald the big bump in the economy, as shown in the second quarter growth domestic product growth, the biggest liberal media outlets were urging Americans to consider it fake news.

“U.S. growth probably hit 4.2 percent this spring, but experts say it's a blip,” said a Washington Post headline.

Another added, “The economy’s great. That doesn’t mean Trumponomics is.”

The New York Times added, “Why Friday’s G.D.P. Number May Be a Size Too Big.”

On MSNBC, the Post’s Ruth Marcus said the government’s report on GDP was smoke and mirrors.

Trump is going to take a lot of credit for these good [GDP] numbers. Don’t believe him. A lot of people who bought things because they’re worried about his tariffs and a lot of false growth from tax cuts juicing the economy, it’s going to then slow down,” she said.

Actually, according to Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, the impact of the tax cuts has yet to hit.

Mulvaney said, “I actually think things could get even better because I don’t think you’ve seen the full impact of the tax bill into the overall economy.”

Oddly, the Democrats were quiet.
Neither the Democratic Party, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, or House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California tweeted on the growth.

But an unlikely source, CNN White House correspondent Stephen Collinson, said Trump should get credit. He wrote, “President Donald Trump thinks he's overdue some credit for steering the strongest economy on the planet — and he's probably right.”

Yes. Talking heads. Mindless people. If you happen to notice, none of them contribute a damn thing to the GDP. Pretty much just suck off it.

Capitalism has always been about boom/bust cycles. And when we hit our next economic meltdown, we’ll Once again “fix” it by redistributing more societal wealth to the aristocracy.

Correct me if I’m wrong but a 4 percent annualized rate over one quarter mean the economy grew 1 percent in the second quarter. Big whoop. What is that a .2 percent increase?

Why do you make that sound like an option? You are. As usual.

a lot of people bought things because of tariffs - I doubt the average american can binge buy even if they wanted to.

Make money. Pay taxes that get used for social programs. Things like that.

Confiscate profits created by workers, avoid taxes that get used for a bigger military, schools, VA, infrastructure repair, police, firemen etc. Why should they want to pay their fair share of that?

2.2 first quarter. the 4.1 is the 2nd quarter results -which would be on track for a 3.0% annual rate. we'll see

You are beyond stupid. Seriously.

We'll have to see - I think Trump's economic policy is VERY geared toward short term gain.

That said, I celebrate what's happening right now. It's great to see the economy humming along like this. I'm sure the left downplays it because they think it benefits Trump & the GOP, but I think it's actually pretty limited in that capacity.

Trump bragged about not paying taxes and supporting the country. Rightys admired that. We want a president who does not want to pay for roads, police ,firemen, airports, or the military. that makes him smart. He said that. it also shows he is not patriotic. He at the base, does not give a crap about the US. It is just a piggy bank for him. He dodged the draft. He does not want to pay for what he gets, and most repubs think that way too.
