It is a Republic, whose representatives are elected by the people. A very typical type of Democracy. Look at the Oxford definition.

this semantics game is meaningless.....regardless of what we call it, our constitution sets up a system in which the majority vote in each state combines with the electoral system which was intended to protect the citizens of the smaller states from the control of the largest states.......it's worked as intended in every election since the Constitution was written.......you folks know you will never get enough support to change it, so why not just concentrate on winning elections within it......here's a clue.......you need policies that are acceptable not just to urban areas, but also to the rest of the country........

Or us taking more from you, this happened because Florida had an unconstitutional gerrymandered election, the will of the people is not represented.
