the desert in 120-degree heat just so they could set some fires and then
crawl back across the desert in 120-degree heat to go home?

Turns out those wacky all-American gunlovers started some of 'em.

One was caused by a rancher whose welding created a spark that ignited the dry underbrush...




Another was found to have been caused by target shooters.




In two cases, military aircraft engaged in training exercises set off fires.

Firefighters are working to control and put out a fire that burned at least 8 camp houses and thousands of acres near Lake Sam Rayburn while officers search for people believed to have started the fire by shooting at propane cylinders while they kept a cooler of beer and ice nearby.
