Maui wildfire death toll hits 67

Arson and horrifically bad land management is what this is about. Almost certain this is where pineapples and sugar cane were once grown....all gone now...the land was abandoned to the grasses, perhapses put there on purpose.

There’s a lot of invasive grass in Hawaii that’s highly flammable. It’s been there for decades.
A combination of a drought and high winds from a hurricane to the south caused the fire to spread with virtually no warning.

I heard that there was a warning system, which did not work, and that this land has been abandoned....as in no one made any effort.

Maui is not California.
No sugar cane anywhere in Hawaii for years.
Not much pineapple either any more
 
Remember too that the Canadian grass fires this year were also mostly caused by arson, more than likely eco-terrorists driving for UTOPIA.

Agreed. wildfires are common in the West but unusual in Hawaii. I doubt they were really prepared for this eventuality. The fires on Maui were on the dry side of the mountain.
