McCracken County, KY, United States (AHN) – A Kentucky man who had been drinking whiskey and smoking marijuana left his 5-week-old son in the oven overnight, according to police reports.
The oven was not turned on and the door was left slightly open.
According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, Larry Long, 33, went home after smoking marijuana at the restaurant where he is a cook and drank a bottle of whiskey with the baby’s mother, Brandy Hatton.
Hatton went to bed after a few shots while Long stayed up and drank the rest, reports stated.
Hatton woke up early the next morning when she heard her baby’s cries coming from the oven.
Emergency crews took the baby who had been left in the oven for several hours to a nearby hospital, where medical staff declared the infant unharmed.
Long reported himself to a psychiatric facility, which in turn contacted authorities, according to reports.
Long reportedly said he believed his marijuana was laced with hallucinogens, causing his strange behavior.
Long was arrested and charged with first degree wanton endangerment. He is being held on $10,000 bond.
Authorities have removed the baby from its mother’s care and awarded emergency custody to members of her family.
