Man fatally stabbed at Fruitvale BART station

(02-20) 09:04 PST OAKLAND -- A 18-year-old man died after being stabbed in the parking lot of the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland, authorities said today.

Christopher Gonzalez ran to his home around the corner from the station after being stabbed at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a BART spokesman and relatives.

The incident happened when three young men got into some kind of dispute in the parking lot of the station at 3401 East 12th St., said agency spokesman Linton Johnson.

The two young men who were with Gonzalez were detained and are being questioned by BART police, he said.

the (not all) comments are spot on, nearly identical to my comments about the bart cop shooting that some here ridiculed me for and some called me a racist and other names....good to know that the "some" of you are only a tiny minority and that most see it rationally as i did....(horn - toot)

Too bad he was not stabbed by a BART cop, no one is going to care about his murder...except his family. These senseless murders are a shame, we need to protest these thugs.

Should I expect a couple BART stations to be closed on my commute due to the massive protests against the death of this young man? Or will it be business as usual since this was the type of senseless murder that nobody seems to be quite that upset about? I think I will put a few bucks on the latter.

Apparently I missed your comments about the shooting by the BART cop.

But if it was anything except "The cop should do time", I cannot imagine your justification.

This stabbing was a criminal act. The BART cop used his authority to have someone detained and restrained. And while he was restrained the cop pulled out his gun and murdered him.

my comments were directed towards the outrage over this one killing versus the outrage over hundreds of other killings...if you read the comments, i gave the latest 3, from the article, they mirror that sentiment. some here thought i was a racist, moron, whatnot for saying that other killings deserve as much attention and protests.

both are criminal acts. it is entirely possible the cop intended to pull his taser and not his gun, still criminally negligent and he will do time. whereas the stabbing, there is not doubt the purpose was to kill or seriously maim.

They are.

Congratulations on it making shit of a difference, besides raising crime rates.

Moron, please. Do you have any clue what the gun laws are in Kalifornia? There is about as much chance of that young man being allowed to carry a gun for self defense as I have of being prime minister of England.

Haha, WM my over under for your survival at the Fruitvale station is about 2 minutes. Being the capitalist I am I'm going to take the under. Haha, pay up crackers.

Read the update, no worries about a protest. Just another dead gang member that fucked with the wrong guy.

A 23-year-old visitor from the East Coast had just gotten money from an ATM when he told his friend on a cell phone that he had a bad feeling about two men approaching him at the Fruitvale BART Station in Oakland.

His worst fears were realized when one suspect, Victor Veliz, 18, held a folding knife with a 5-inch blade to his neck and the other, Christopher Gonzalez, 18, threatened to shoot him Thursday night, authorities said.

In a blind panic, he lashed out at his attackers, grabbing the knife from one of them and punching the other as his friend listened in horror on the phone.

Without realizing it, authorities say, the man stabbed Gonzalez in the chest.
Gonzalez stumbled to his family's home around the corner, collapsed into his father's arms and died.

Veliz, who is affiliated with a gang, was arrested at Gonzalez's home after police allegedly found him with the East Coast visitor's cell phone. He will be charged with murder in the death of his accomplice, along with a robbery count, prosecutors said.

The concerned fuckers father...

Javier Gonzalez sobbed at the loss of his son, who worked with him in his roofing business and at Oakland Raiders games.

"I'm angry at both of them," he said of the robbery victim and Veliz. "They took my son away from me. He was a hard-working kid."

He added, "My son is dead. I want somebody to pay for this."

... do you believe this dead fucker's father. I imagine he will file a lawsuit against the victim and Bart.

spurt you are retarded the Bart cop executed him,
if you don't get the difference get back on the little yellow bus and do a couple more years in high school.

my wife used to commute from berkley to concord and avoided the station like the plague...she took the direct bart line

The reason the murder by the BART cop brought out so much outrage is that it was a murder by a cop. And the kid was restrained. That "he thought it was his taser" excuse is nonsense. If he can't tell the difference between a plastic Taser and a loaded firearm, he has no business being armed with any more dangerous than a fork.

The police are given a greater power than civilians. This means they have a greater responsibility and are held to a higher standard.

Besides, this was not an attack by one person against another person. This was a group of cops using their authority to subdue and restrain civilians. And while one of those civilians was restrained (read - totally helpless) he was shot.

WTF? That is FAR worse than one criminal attacking a citizen.

you mean legally, what about the illegal firearms, still i think the shooting was outrageous and due to poor training and bad judgement of the cop

I disagree. Any law enforcement officer is told that he does not ever pull his weapon unless he is willing to take a life. That is why it is called "deadly force".
