I think the problem is that in America people are far too inclined to think in groups, because of the amorphous nature of an immigrant society. 'Muslims' are not normally such a group except where racist-type weirdoes make them so. Here, for instance, there is all the difference in the world between those in Bradford, who come from the Pakistani backwoods and send home for cousins to marry, and their 'co-religionists' in Leicester or London. I always got on well with Cardiff Somalis, and even found some to drink with!

It is wonderful how some people assume that 'Muslims' are somehow not affected by the forces that affect everyone else. Sometimes the second generation gets a muddled religion, but by the third they are becoming just like everyone else.
