Central Bank of Libya)
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/0...ires-safecrackers-to-break-into-own-safe.html

BEYDA, Libya – Underneath a bank in this eastern coastal city, a vault holds a trove of gold and silver coins worth $184 million. It belongs to the central bank, which could use the money to alleviate a crippling cash shortage.

The pile, however, presents some problems. The coins are locked away with a five-number code that central bankers in this part of the country don’t have.
A rival government in Tripoli, which has effective control over the bank system, won’t hand over the digits and has expressed concern the money could fund armed militias opposed to its rule.

To make things worse, the metal pieces bear the face of Moammar Qaddafii, the reviled leader who was overthrown, captured and killed in 2011.

Assuming he could reach the coins, “I can’t sell them as they are,” said Ali El Hibri, the central bank governor in eastern Libya. “I don’t want to cause any controversy in the street by advertising the face of Qaddafi.”

Mr. Hibri needs to crack an antiquated but sturdy 48-year-old British-made vault that holds the bounty. He is betting on a famous pair of safecrackers—the same duo that successfully gained access to several regime vaults that helped fund the 2011 rebellion.

One of them, who would identify himself only as Khaled, is an engineer. He named his partner as a Mr. al-Fitouri, a locksmith who specializes in busting open car doors, home locks and the odd vault.

The safecrackers don’t expect much help. “All blueprints for the vault are in Tripoli,” said Khaled, who says he has a master’s degree from a university in London. “And they won’t send copies.”

Qaddafi’s demise wasn’t preordained when we intervened. Rather, our intervention was instrumental in toppling his regime.

Alan Kuperman, an associate professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin, makes a persuasive case that prior to our intervention, the Libyan civil war was virtually over. The rebels had been defeated. Their last stronghold, Benghazi, was about to fall.

The Obama administration’s major rationale for intervening was to prevent a “bloodbath,” particularly in Benghazi when it fell to Qaddafi.

Donald Trump, meanwhile, flatly lied during the debate about his pre-intervention position on Libya. There are no “ifs” about it.

Trump denied having ever supported the Obama administration’s efforts to remove Qaddafi from power. Ted Cruz gave him a chance to back away from his claim, but Trump insisted upon it.

As Breitbart points out, however, the record shows that Trump did, in fact, support the U.S. efforts against Qaddifi.

In February of 2011, Trump said that the U.S. should go into Libya “on a humanitarian basis” and “knock this guy out very quickly, very surgically, very effectively and save the lives.”

Donald Trump seems incapable of telling the truth.

^yep. "surgical intervention" by bombing Misrata in a "humanitarian war" ... can't make this shit up...

And Trump was all for it, and then lied about it.

Here is Trump’s fuller statement:

I can’t believe what our country is doing. Gadhafi, in Libya, is killing thousands of people. Nobody knows how bad it is and we’re sitting around. We have soliders all over the Middle East and we’re not bringing them in to stop this horrible carnage. And that’s what it is, a carnage.

Now we should go in. We should stop this guy which would be very easy and very quick. We could do it surgically, stop him from doing it and save these lives.

This is absolute nuts. We don’t want to get involved and you’re going to end up with something like you’ve never seen before.

Now, ultimately the people will appreciate it and they’re going to end up taking over the country eventually. But the people will appreciate it and they should pay us back. But we have to go in to save these lives. These people are being slaughtered like animals. We should do it on a humanitarian basis. Immediately go into Libya, knock this guy out very quickly, very surgically, very effectively and save the lives.

i'm sure. who can follow trumps oscillations...

But whatever he was for or against pales to Clinton's aggressive campaign to:
arm the rebels, regime change, sway Obama, and lie about Viagra rape.. She is pure scum and is responsible for 100k deaths
destruction of a country..and still she dismisses it as "smart power"

may she rot in hell

She was an abject failure as Secretary of State, just as she was in the Senate.

Her "accomplishments" file is a short list of disasters.

ISIS rule in Sirte

A leading international rights group on Wednesday released a report documenting atrocities committed by Libya's Islamic State affiliate in the country's coastal city of Sirte, a stronghold of the militants.

In the report, Human Rights Watch recounts "scenes of horror" described by witnesses — atrocities that date back to Feb. 2015 and include beheadings of dozens of residents accused by IS militants of being spies.

The Islamic State has gained a foothold in Libya amid the chaos that engulfed the country over the past few years, torn between rival governments and a myriad of militias backing either side.

The report by the New York-based watchdog also recounts instances of "crucifixions" and floggings of men for acts such as smoking or listening to music. The report is based on HRW interviews of 45 residents of Sirte conducted in March last year. The residents were among the two thirds of the city's 80,000-strong population that fled after IS overran Sirte.

"While the world's attention is focused on atrocities in Syria and Iraq, ISIS is also getting away with murder in Libya," said Letta Tayler, a senior terrorism and counterterrorism researcher at HRW, using an alternative acronym for the Islamic State group.

U.S. military experts estimated in April that the Islamic State group has up to 6,000 fighters in Libya.

In running Sirte, HRW said IS gave homes and all the goods seized from residents who fled to its fighters. Those who were accused of being spies or sorcerers were brutally killed, the right group said.

The report comes just days after the United States and other Western countries threw their support behind Libya's newly formed and U.N.-brokered government, saying they would supply the government with weapons to counter the Islamic State group.

This has sparked concerns of more arms being poured into this North African country already awash in weapons.
