The Right whine and whine and whine about how they don't want sex ed discussed in schools...but along comes this enlightening story:

The principal of a Cincinnati Catholic school has apologized to parents after Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) discussed abortion during a speech to kids as young as 6.

Schmidt, a conservative, brought up the controversial matter while talking about the connection between moral issues and legislation during a question-and-answer period, the Daily News reported.

"Unexpectedly, towards the end of her address, Congresswoman Schmidt brought up the topic of abortion," Prinicipal Dan Teller wrote in a letter to parents, obtained by Cincinnati's WLWT-TV. "Your children may come home with questions, especially if this is a topic that has not been broached in your home."

"She defined abortion as the taking of a child's life in the mother's womb," Teller wrote. "She indicated that abortion involves the killing of a child before it is born."

The principal apologized "for any confusion or fear that this may elicit on the part of your child, and for the awkward position this may put you in of introducing a difficult issue at a time that may be premature for you."

its always a laugh when hacks like zappa take one person and attribute what they did to an entire party or group of people....then again, its zappa so no surprise

the rep shouldn't have discussed this issue with them, its very political and if the right wants the left to stay out of our classrooms with this kind of stuff, then the right should too

Was the school in question shaped like a pineapple, by any chance?

wow...you are seriously a creepy stalker...using maineman's words from another forum - which he was banned at btw for using those words as they were a continual "description" of what he thinks is my workplace - and trying to taunt me here with them

you really don't have to think about me all day, you can get a life

I have no idea what you're crying about, Yurtsie. Do you?

fanatics rarely think logically, reasonably or are consistent in their beliefs

e.g., one pro-gun fanatic stated his opinion against an obama appointee regarding gun control, he said that the man had voted for gun control and had a pro-gun control stance, when told that the person that he was against could not vote as he was an appointee the man said well he was for gun-control but could not site any instance of the appointee's action, when confronted with this the man said well he is against guns - likely another victim of faux news false propaganda

how can you be for or against someone without a reason? - if you listen to fanatics railing on radio or tv about people, you can form an opinion without reason

uh huh....no one is crying and you just have no idea why you mentioned a pineapple shaped building....given maineman mentioned it dozens of times on another board....

uh huh...not only a creepy stalker but a liar

I've never had a problem with teaching sex education to high school students. I think that is something we SHOULD be doing, but that should include teaching abstinence as the only 100% foolproof way to avoid pregnancy and STD's. I also don't think we should be handing out condoms like Halloween candy to teens, that's a bit on the stupid side, if you ask me. You can tell them about condoms, you can even show them how to use them, but providing them? Not sure I see where that's a good idea.

I don't think it's appropriate to be speaking to 6-year-olds about abortion, OR homosexuality. They are far too young to be having to deal with either of these issues. It can wait until high school, in my opinion.... but speaking of MY opinion...

I believe we live in a diverse society of opinions, and everyone doesn't see things the way I do. These issues regarding what should and shouldn't be taught, need to be left up to local school boards and communities, not determined by ME, or by anyone outside the community, and mandated onto the people. Let the community decide what is best for them, and I can live with that.

Other than the fact that I won't personally trust people who break promises to those closest to them to keep their promises to me, whom they do not know, I care little about who cheats on whom.

while i do not disagree with your statement, how does it pertain to this thread

Well, I seldom watch the View or Joy Behar Show and never watch Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews...

Question: since when is mentioning abortion some kind of "sex education"?

Some people are way too desperate to criticize.
