Last police officer in Mexican border town missing

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico – The last remaining police officer in the Mexican border town of Guadalupe has disappeared, and prosecutors in northern Chihuahua state said Tuesday they have started a search for her.

Twenty-eight-year-old officer Ericka Gandara held out despite the desertions and resignations that left her as the only officer in the Juarez Valley town, which was served by eight police a year ago.

But Gandara hasn't been seen since Dec. 23. While some local media have reported Gandara was kidnapped, prosecutors' spokesman Arturo Sandoval said her relatives have not filed a kidnap complaint.

Sandoval said the search was started Monday as a missing-person case.

The same day she disappeared, assailants also set fire to the home of a Guadalupe town councilwoman.

what the fuck is wrong with mexico? during the al capone era it was bad, but never this bad and we finally kicked his ass....

what is the difference between mexico and america? how is it america is able to handle drug pins, cartels, gangs, murders etc....in a superior fashion?

it's citizens are not allowed firearms, period, and their police forces are wholly inadequately trained to deal with the ruthlessness of the drug gangs. It's not difficult to see where that leads.

i didn't realize mexico does not allow their citizens to won firearms at all...that leaves firearms in the hands of outlaws....do you think if the citizens were allowed firearms as in the states, that this massive drug war would be less of an issue? in that, maybe akin to what we have here or is it something else there besides just firearm laws?

as to their police force...why is it they can't properly train them?

Obviously, mexican government and police are inept at best, or more likely corrupt. Can we make generalizations about a culture that allows this to happen?
Cowards? Crooks?
If you feel we can not, please explain why.

I consider "mexican" to be a culture of crooks. Need some examples?

its a novel thought...though can you list other countries that also have the rampant corruption and actual war (drugs) that mexico has? or perhaps other types of war.....

The right to bear arms is only part of the solution. It also requires the will to employ violence against violence. All too often, what happens with a disarmed citizenry is that they lose their sense of liberty. Without the will to fight for their lives, anything else is pretty much irrelevant.

As to the police force, it's not that they can't properly train them, but they won't. mexico, while claiming to be a democracy, is in reality, a barony. Yes, they hold elections for president and so forth, but the military is the real power, and that military doesn't trust anyone outside of its own.

The Mexican government has no money and is woefully underfunded as compared to the government of the United States. Effective law enforcement and a functioning justice system cost money and the Mexican government ain't got none.

The problem is what I've tried to explain many times, on different threads.

Mexico has few, if any, social programs. When there is a lack of social programs every "man" is for himself. In simple terms people don't care about the society they live in. Their concern is for themselves.

Other countries have different forms of corruption. Mexico, being next to the US and a path for drugs from Central America, makes it a natural drug store.

interesting....so contrary to STY's theory, you posit that it is because of a lack of social programs....

if you can....point what social programs existed right after the reign of terror of al capone and other gangsters....that caused his demise and the demise of the mobs or gangs controlling this country

also, if you can, point out the lack of social programs that caused the demise of violent gangs in the US (often trafficking in drugs) in the late 80's to mid 90's....

It isn't any particular program. It has to do with the living conditions of the general population. First, people struggling to just exist do not give a damn about others. In developed countries not only do people aid law enforcement (tips, etc) but law enforcement, themselves, are not as prone to corruption because they are not struggling to survive.

Add to that people have a way to survive other than sell drugs so the risks are weighed.

Let's face it if ones family is starving the idea of making money, legally or illegally, will be considered by most people. Social programs, an assurance one will not fall into abject poverty, is weighed against breaking the law.

Could you please wipe your theories off before posting them. You stunk up the whole thread.

Seriously, social programs? LOL what a fool believes. No wonder you're a liberal. You honestly believe government is the answer. LOL

Educate yourself. Why do you think when tourists go to most Caribbean countries or Mexico they're advised to stay on or near the resort property?

Better yet, travel. The world doesn't end at your back yard fence.
