“Kimmel is back on ABC to big ratings”

Certainly not an expert, or even an amateur, but on network TV nothing is cheap, and I’d suppose with late night TV even breaking even is an accomplishment. Kimmel’s value is what he offers on digital platforms and his name recognition for ABC

Keep in mind, showing Family Feud reruns late night’s isn’t going to make any network or affiliates money, and even with the “hard way” the affiliates are going to want to keep close with Disney knowing college football and major sports events are on that Network and ESPN

Speaking of which, Illinois lost their QB this week, getting rosier for your Trojans
You are certainly correct that they look beyond just total viewership in determining the value a late night show brings to the network.

Illinois gets crushed by Indiana, they lose their QB and it's a 9:00am West Coast start. This just screams over confidence by 'SC and upset alert.

Indiana is good football team, unfortunately for them, they have to play both Oregon and Penn State this year

Don’t know if I believe in the trap game scenario these days, not saying it doesn’t happen, but rarely, you’ll be cracking your first whatever adult beverage you enjoy early

Haha, my 8 year old, "Mommy, why is Daddy drinking at 9:0am?"

We’ll put it in a coffee cup, make it an Irish coffee, you can’t tell me many an alumni won’t be indulging early
There are a number of bars on Union St that have college watch parties for certain schools each week. You'll see alumni of Midwest and East Coast schools lined up outside the bar before 9:00am on Saturdays. I respect the passion.

Having done it, an East coast visitor catching an afternoon game early in the morning in SF is bizarre, I’ve watched a Sox/Yankees game in a bar there at ten in the morning, and the place was pretty full
