This story made the headlines locally today. A 20 year old kid from San Francisco who plays football at the University of New Mexico was flying back to New Mexico from SF after attending a friend's funeral. Supposedly he was wearing sweatpants which were down his legs with his boxers hanging out. A US Air flight attendent asked him to pull up his pants. Supposedly he didn't. Eventually the pilot came and talked to him and then had him thrown off the plane. It doesn't state it in this article but the Sacramento Bee reported the kid injured a police officer as he was being kicked off the plane. He was arrested and spent the night in jail.

If you read the article you can tell they're coming more from a was he picked on because he was black with dreads and saggy pants?

I went through a very brief phase when I was in high school when I thought that look was cool. I tried to leave my house one day when my shorts hanging real low and I'll never forget the look of death my father gave me as I quickly pulled my pants up and left the house very embarrassed. Listening to this kids coach and mom it doesn't sound like he has anyone in his life telling him the same. There were a lot of people commenting after the article so I thought it was an interesting story.

Reasoning for SFO sagging-pants arrest debated

I don't know whether it was because he was black, but a year or so ago a blonde Caucasian was almost kicked off a Southwest flight because they said her clothing was "too provocative". Airlines are power-mad.

"When I get on a plane and see a 13-year-old girl with her whale tail" - exposed G-string underwear - "and fat old white guys with plumber's crack sitting down, and middle-aged ladies in halter tops and tons of cleavage - if you're not going to kick those people off the plane or ask them to cover up, then let's admit the hypocrisy."

I think this pretty much sums up my position on this as well.

Dood. I see some people up on the sidewalk wearing shorts that would be better described as "Speedos"... Let the fool wear his saggers... Get my flight off on time and I'll worry about telling my daughter why that look is flat stupid. He's already been through pat downs and naked scans, why put him through this BS?

Hey Damo, the troll and I have agreement that he will not post in threads I start. He has violated that agreement twice in this thread alone. You have my permission to delete his posts from this thread. Thank you.

From a legal perspective did the kid have any recourse? I know pilots have final say on flights so once the pilot asked him to pull his pants up he had no choice. Could he sue for the flight attendent asking him to do so? Of course once he disobeyed the pilot and fought with an officer his chances of winning anything probably went way down.
