Kerry Throws Doubt on Anonymous “Intelligence” Reports on Russian Hacks

On Thursday, Secretary of State John Kerry appeared before reporters to deliver a statement on the crisis in Syria. After giving his statement, a reporter asked Kerry if he had any comment on reports that Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian hacks that might have influenced the presidential election.

“Well, let me – look, I am not going to start making comments at this point. I haven’t commented on this publicly because of the job I do,” Kerry told the reporter.

“I’m not going to comment on anonymous reports from intelligence officials that are not identified that have quotes around the concept of intelligence officials,” Kerry went on to say, putting “intelligence officials” in air quotes.

Questioning the validity of these sources is something that members of Donald Trump’s transition team have been doing for days. Members of the media, however, don’t seem to think this is an issue. It seems as though the sitting secretary of state does.

Indeed.....NO ONE can name the "US OFFICIAL" that was quoted as being "anonymous" from 2 major left wing rags. Why? Because wherever they got the information...if it does exist at all, that source is some political hack working with the intelligence system with the full knowledge that a top secret security clearance is required before any such information can be leaked. Conclusion: Mr. Anonymous sure has great timing for any and all left wing talking points of the day. :)
 
This thread will get few responses I'll wager, it's not what Democrats want to hear right now. I must admit that it is truly surreal how Russia has become the bogeyman for the left when for so many years it was the exact reverse. Doesn't anybody else see the delicious irony?

"Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday pushed back against Donald Trump's refusal to accept that Russia was behind the hacking of Democratic targets, saying there is strong evidence the Russian government was trying to meddle in the U.S. election.

Kerry declined to directly respond to questions based on anonymous sources from intelligence officials saying Russian President Vladimir Putin directed the attacks but maintained that Russia’s government was, in fact, behind the hacking.

President Barack Obama, he said, had “an obligation to go out to the country and give a warning” about Russian interference in the election “based on the input that was carefully, carefully vetted by the intelligence community and presented to everybody” in the Situation Room. And he did so.

Back in October, the president authorized the director of national intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security, together, to make a very clear statement to this nation, to our nation,” he told reporters Thursday. “And they said unequivocally that they assessed with high confidence — it’s what we said in October — with high confidence that the Russian government directed compromises of emails from U.S. institutions, including political organizations, and that these thefts and disclosures were intended to interfere with our election process.”

Kerry maintained that Obama “made clear” in October that Russia’s meddling was a serious issue.

“It was a serious matter then. It’s a serious matter now, as even more information comes out,” he said. “I’m not going to comment on it further, except to say that people need to remember that the president issued a warning, but he had to be obviously sensitive to not being viewed as interfering on behalf of a candidate or against a candidate or in a way that promoted unrealistic assessments about what was happening. I think the president did that, and now we have to get out the facts, and I’m confident we will in the months ahead.”

That says it all....putting “intelligence officials” in air quotes.
Within an hour he as Demsplaining for the unwashed....
Of course he got his ass kicked for it....but like a good dog, got back on the party line.
