Kamala Harris comes up w a great idea!

How much you want to bet trumppers will now complain it was trumps idea first.
trump wants to carefully craft the tax giveaway so that his billionaire supporters will be able to claim income as tips.
Not unlike the carried interest scam that he promised to do away with back in '16.

As long as Harris wants a very narrow scope for the bill, it's fine.
Otherwise it's the same tax giveaway to billionaires.

Trump makes a lot of promises, and never fullfills them.

There was supposed to be a 30 foot wall across the southern border by now, Trump was supposed to pass an infrastructure bill, Trump was supposed to repeal Obamacare, and Trump was supposed to denuclearize North Korea.

When asked about Mexico paying for the wall the other day, he said of course he couldn’t get it done, there was no way to force Mexico to pay. .

Exactly what I said when he made the promise!

When it comes to Trump, there is no there there…

I have another suggesting- PAY RESTAURANT STAFF A DECENT WAGE TO BEGIN WITH- AND STOP DEPENDING ON THE CUSTOMERS TO PAY THEIR SALARY THROUGH TIPS!

There is nothing more wrong than asking your customers to add 15 - 25% to their Bill, for food that is already more expensive than it should be, JUST SO THE RESTAURANT OWNERS CAN GET BY WITH FOSTERING CHEAP WAGES- OR IN SOME CASES NO WAGES AT ALL.

Think about it, your Social Security income will depend on your best 5 years of salary, and if you are not required to pay taxes on the tips which now counts as earned income. When that is no longer the case, and it does not count as income any longer, lifetime Restaurant workers will end up not even making enough from their Social Security incomes when they retire.
Lifetime restaurant workers work until they die.

And it's not all that old so no worries.

It's a great start, but a better idea would be to eliminate the ability of companies to pay people less than the minimum wage in hopes that the general public will cover the difference.

My feeling is: if you have a business and you can't pay all your people a living wage you don't have a business, you have a hobby you want OTHERS to. pay for.

What's going to happen here is America will have less revenue and the people who benefit from tipped work (the business owners who don't have to cover their full costs of doing business) will still be getting that advantage.

But, yes, it is a good start for the working folks. And that's not nothing.
It is not your idea. When FDR passed the minimum wage, he called it a living wage. He added that if you cannot afford to pay your employees a minimum wage, you should not have a business in America. The minimum age is 7.25. If it did not exist, many employers would pay less.

People who are incapable of, or unwilling to, move up to more complex and demanding jobs that pay better are, just as they have been for all of history and before, doomed to a life of toil for little gain. Whether you are lazy, stupid, or both, you just won't get ahead.

Dead end jobs, like those in fast food don't deserve a "living wage." They deserve ridicule and to be called "starter jobs," something you get starting out with the intention to move up to something better.

One, I think that serving food is one of the most important things somebody can do on this planet,
and Two, I think one has to be an idiot to not see that.

I think one can serve themselves food most or all of the time and that getting it served to you is a luxury. Getting handed a sack of food at a fast food restaurant is not being "served" food. A waiter at a sit-down restaurant is a perk you are paying for with the meal. In most countries, good service is expected as part of that, no tip required.

At truly high end restaurants, service is almost like a stage play you are participating in. Those servers get paid well for their parts. But that's at some high end Michelin star restaurant. At Denny's, the server isn't doing that sort of thing. They take your order, bring your food, and that's about it. No tip necessary for that and it isn't particularly an "important" job.

Not as a career. The world can exist without restaurants. They are a want, not a need. Therefore those who work there are not essential workers.

Within 50 years "if the world lasts that long" I can easily see what we know as eating being 100% eliminated for everyone except those at the very top. Just as water lines are ran into every home so will a "feeding tube" also be ran. Based upon how many people live in the home so many ounces per day"strictly controlled by a govt agency " of a liquid smoothie type grool made up of certain veggies, ocean based greens, and protein primarily from insects . It will be billed as both a way to fight disease and promote good health and hailed as a way to save the planet. Good times!.... :)

Those jobs are what make the profits that make owners millionaires and put fast-food restaurants on the stock market.

No, the quantity of restaurants owned make them rich. Owning a single fast-food restaurant isn't going to get you rich most of the time. Owning a chain of say, 10 to 30 makes you rich. Franchisees don't go on the stock market even if the parent corporation is.

If it came to that, I could see people, like in the Soviet Union, putting in small gardens, raising chickens and rabbits, that sort of thing, and becoming the primary sources of food as people eschew the government's crap. Sure, the government could outlaw it, but as with the Soviet Union, once privation and starvation set in, they quickly change their minds because they can see it's either a popular uprising or no population to control.
