Judge rejects RNC bid to end minority voter protections

A federal judge in New Jersey on Tuesday rejected an attempt by the Republican National Committee to end nearly three-decade-old restrictions on GOP "ballot security" programs that historically discriminated against minority voters.

In a ruling that extended the restrictions for at least another eight years, but also slightly narrowed the consent decree containing them, U.S. District Court Judge Dickinson Debevoise of Newark asserted that “voter intimidation presents an ongoing threat to the participation of minority individuals in the political process.”

The consent decree stems from a lawsuit brought in the early 1980s in New Jersey by the Democratic National Committee, which accused the Republican National Committee of suppressing minority voters under the guise of guarding against voter fraud, partly by challenging their registrations if mail sent to their residences was returned as undeliverable, and by stationing off-duty police around polling places in minority neighborhoods.

The DNC lawyers cited examples from the 2004 election, which until you posted just now I thought were common knowledge.

The headline alone should answer your question. RNC GETS DENIED WHILE TRYING TO REVOKE MINORITY VOTING RIGHTS PROTECTIONS. (paraphrase) WTF about that isn't racist?

One of them, they say, brandished a nightstick at the entrance and pointed it at voters and both made racial threats. Mr. Bull says he heard one yell "You are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker!"

There was outrage over the decision among Congressional Republicans, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and in the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division—especially after it was learned one of the defendants who walked was Jerry Jackson, a member of Philadelphia's 14th Ward Democratic Committee and a credentialed poll watcher for the Democratic Party last Election Day.

But don't anyone dare fuckin' ask for a photo ID or if the voter is really a citizen....

RNC WORKING TO REVOKE MINORITY VOTING PROTECTIONS

WTF about revoking minority voting protections isn't racist, Yurt? The rules were put in place against the RNC in the 80s because it was shown in court that the RNC was racist and was committing voter fraud. Now they're trying to revoke the rules so they can do it again.

RNC wanted to challenge ANY registrations if mail sent to their residences was returned as undeliverable...a voter fraud ploy still used today by ACORN and Democrats every election.....
Democrats know.....when you own the judges, you own the process.....

this is real simple to fix. you have to register to vote. voting takes place at a specific polling place for your district. present your voter registration card, checkmark that the voter has voted, then arrest the next individual that tries to use that name.

why do they need protections? you haven't shown me anything, i already told you i don't know what incident you're referring to....i have no idea what court said what....or why....

and how can you say that showing ID to vote is akin to voter tax? god forbid we actually try to crack down on voter fraud....you probably thinks its racist to check id's...

It's a poll tax if you require a state issued ID to vote when that ID costs money. That's why the Republicans push for it all the time. They know it will hurt minority votes.

Adding hurdles to the voting process is antithetical to an open democracy and it has already been ruled by the courts to be a poll tax. The debate is over. A voter registration card is free, so why won't you guys accept one of those? Because it doesn't prevent minorities from voting.

The article, if you go and find it, explains the specific circumstances. If you want more details on it you can google it. It's not my job to go fill the holes in your basic knowledge. If you attack the premise of the story, you need to go provide the evidence to back up your attacks. It doesn't fall on my shoulders to go and prove common knowledge to every retard to wants to challenge fact.

and it is fuckign stupid to think that only minorities couldn't afford an ID card....you racist, as if only minorities are poor.....and as i said, i see no problem for a fee waiver, courts have them all the time for certain documents/filings that are required....

This is simply another liberal ibgayguy failed attempt to paint Republicans as racist. This time its because they want to ensure that only those qualified to vote do, and only do so once per election. It has nothing to do with race: zero zip nada.
