Judge blocks Trump from cutting billions in medical research funding

A federal judge in Massachusetts blocked Donald Trump’s administration from cutting scientific research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) after 22 mostly Democratic-leaning states sued.

The Trump administration sought to impose a 15% cap on “indirect costs” for grants – money that goes toward overhead, such as keeping the lights on in labs or maintaining advanced equipment. On Tuesday, major universities filed a second lawsuit, calling the administration’s actions “flagrantly unlawful” in a complaint.

So, a Biden appointed judge who was barely appointed to her seat (52 - 44 vote) and has a long history of activism as a lawyer in Leftist causes, not to mention--seemingly--her most important qualification being she's female, Black, and Asian as that gets early mention in all of her bio's, blocks Trump until a hearing on the 21st of this month based, as best as I can tell, on nothing other than her whim.

I see nothing wrong with Trump putting a 15% cap on overhead expenses from money granted--GRANTED--to medical researchers. This money isn't something they earned, and if the federal government wants to put strings attached to it that's their prerogative. This money isn't some researcher's slush fund, and the federal government has every right to put restrictions on how it is spent by those receiving the grant. If some researcher doesn't like that, they're free to turn it down.

On the other hand, why should taxpayers expect some researcher to be handed taxpayer money and be allowed to do pretty much whatever the hell they want with it?
