John McCain the "armchair warrior"

Fair enough but doesn't armchair imply one who didn't fight?

Not really, I played high school football over 30 years ago and I try to pretend I know what's going on during the super bowl and how I would play it but fuck if I know current strategies and plays, I'm just an armchair quarterback now, all I have is my opinions.

If you played in the NFL should you should be able to comment on the Super Bowl?

The U.S. used to fight wars with the mentality of winning. Over the past several years, it seems we fight with the mentality of trying not to lose. There is a difference. If you fight to win, it doesn't guarantee a win. If you fight not to lose, you're guaranteed a loss. While I played college football 30 years ago, I'm with you about the Super Bowl. However, it did seem that during quarters 1 - 3 the Falcons were playing to win then changed to playing not to lose.

What you said applies to the players that were considered great many years ago. People like Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, Fran Tarkington, etc., while the top of their field in the 1970s and into the early 1980s, wouldn't come close to making it the way the game is played today. They were good based on the strategies used then but those strategies have changed. Like you, I am an armchair quarterback now and all I have is my opinions.
