John Bolton says Trump wouldn't have stood in Putin's way if a Russian invasion of Ukraine had happened during his term

  • John Bolton said Trump would not have stood in Putin's way if Russia had invaded Ukraine when he was president.
  • Bolton added that Trump had little understanding of "what the stakes were" in Ukraine.
  • He also slammed Trump, calling his former boss's glorification of Putin "embarrassing."
John Bolton, the US' former national security advisor, said his ex-boss, former President Donald Trump, would not have stood in Putin's way if a Russian invasion of Ukraine had happened when he was in office.

"Well, I'm not sure he would have done much of anything, frankly," Bolton said in an interview with Vice published March 1, responding to a question about what Trump might have done had Russia attacked Ukraine while he was president.

"But you never know with Trump. It depends on what time of day it is, it depends on what he thought his political benefit would be at any given moment. I don't think ultimately he would have stood in Putin's way," Bolton told Vice.

Bolton said he thought Trump's glorification of Putin was "embarrassing for the United States." He also said that he did not think that Trump cared about Ukraine in the first place.

"It's hard for me to describe how little he knows," Bolton said in the interview with Vice.

There is nothing America could have done regardless of who was President. This is what the "Well of course Putin did not do this when Trump was there" crowd gets wrong.

Bolton is score settling, which is what he seems to spend his life doing.

"He once asked (then-White House Chief of Staff) John Kelly if Finland was part of Russia. :palm:

Bolton said in an interview on Newsmax this week, that Trump "barely knew where Ukraine was," pushing back on Newsmax host Rob Schmitt's assertion that Trump, as president, would have handled Russia better than Biden.

Trump was impeached in 2019 for withholding nearly $400 million in vital military aid from Ukraine. While in office, Trump also repeatedly bashed NATO and raised the possibility of the US leaving the alliance.

we will never know.......however we do know Biden hasn't stood in his way......

So does Bolton.

Bungling Biden botched the West’s efforts to stop Putin invading Ukraine, says John Bolton

Bungling Biden has explained why he failed to stop Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He admitted that he had no idea what he was doing.

For months, NATO thought they were working to deter Vladimir Putin from aggression against Ukraine. The entire debate centered on choosing the most effective measures to convince Putin of the enormous consequences he and Russia would face if they resorted to military force.

Western leaders asked themselves what threats of economic sanctions would be the most effective deterrent against a Russian invasion.

What measures would persuade Moscow that the costs of any military action would be prohibitive, and more serious for Russia than any possible benefits?

Today, it is tragically obvious this collective effort failed.

Last Thursday, at a White House press conference, we learnt why.

Bungling Biden admitted that he never believed his threats to impose economic sanctions against Russia, and other steps the West might take if the Kremlin “further invaded” Ukraine, would deter Putin.

The transcript is admittedly confused, as are so many of bungling Biden’s remarks, but the meaning is clear.

A reporter asked: “Sir, sanctions clearly have not been enough to deter Vladimir Putin to this point. What is going to stop him?”

Bungling Biden answered: “No one expected the sanctions to prevent anything from happening.”

That was news to DEMOCRATS, who believed their sanctions were intended to do precisely that.

Another reporter asked: “If sanctions cannot stop Putin, what penalty can?” Bungling Biden said: “I didn’t say sanctions couldn’t stop him.”

Perhaps stunned at bungling Biden contradicting his own words, uttered just moments before, the reporter tried again: “But you’ve been talking about the threat of these sanctions for several weeks now.”

Bungling Biden interrupted: “Yes, but the threat of the sanctions and imposing the sanctions and seeing the effect of the sanctions are two different things! He’s going to begin to see the effect of the sanctions!”

If that wasn’t bad enough, bungling Biden said repeatedly that “this is going to take time”.

Translating bungling Biden’s answers into sensible English leads to disturbing conclusions. Possibly, he simply doesn’t understand what deterrence is.

Putin showed what he thought of bungling Biden’s "leadership" by placing Russia’s nuclear deterrent on high alert.

The rubble in bungling Biden’s mind is what it is. We should not await improvement.

The West has failed to deter Russia’s attack, and its post-invasion sanctions have so far been pinpricks, hardly even touching Russia’s critical energy sector.

There you have it, folks: Trump's own National Security Adviser is suggesting Trump is Putin's lapdog.
