JC Watts, the GOP "Obama", supporting the real Obama?

The Force is With Me
Surprise, surprise.

JC Watts, who the GOP never felt was "qualified" for higher office, is now thinking of supporting Barack Obama.

"Watts said he's still a Republican, but he criticizes his party for neglecting the black community. Black Republicans, he said, have to concede that while they might not agree with Democrats on issues, at least that party reaches out to them.

"And Obama highlights that even more," Watts said, adding that he expects Obama to take on issues such as poverty and urban policy. "Republicans often seem indifferent to those things."

And of lessor note, other black republicans are thinking the same thing ..

Black conservatives weigh voting for Obama

There aren't that many black republicans to actually make a difference .. but this speaks to the tired facade that democrats "pander" to the black vote and that republicans are serious about representing all Americans.

Bac, you have some serious derangement about black conservatives.

Why the hate?

No derangement whatsoever.

Watts is a black conservative .. I have no problem with him. never said I did.

Besides, why would I be "deranged" about such a small subset of people?

I enjoy having fun with them .. and I'm really enjoying watching them squirm. All that has been said of most them is on vivid display.

They're standing on the deck of a sinking ship .. I'm just waving bye-bye. :)

I just find it interesting that you appear to commend black conservatives for supporting Obama, but when the tables were turned the other way blacks weren't supporting a conservative African American for President.

From what you have posted it appears that black conservatives are more loyal to their race than their ideology, and black liberals are more loyal to their ideology than their race.

From where you sit you may indeed have such a misconception .. which you are entitled to. But I have a little different insight than you, not because you're not black, but because you just don't have it.

What conservative African-American for president would you be talking about? Surely you're not talking about Alan "weasal-head" Keys? I doubt if his mother voted for him .. and when he ran against Obama he suffered the greatest election blowout loss in Illinois election history. Why didn't white conservatives support him? .. That's who was on his team .. not black people.

And no, blacks don't vote for black faces unless they represent issues and policies that are in our interest .. no differently than white people.

All of a sudden black conservatives are waking up to the reality that the Republican Party has limited use for them .. when they've been hearing that from other black people for at least 40 years?

I'm supposed to applaud their johnny-come-lately awakening?

Fuck that.

These guys are doing the same thing many whitre conservatives are doing .. questioning the wisdom of their own party and looking to wash their hands of Bush.

Feel free to maintain any misconceptions you choose.

It's not a misconception, bac, it's an observation.

You can feel equally free to ignore it, but I was merely trying to provoke discussion.

Yes Allen Keyes is an unbelievable imbecile and I don't expect that blacks (or any other race) would have supported him en masse. This in itself, however, does not invalidate the point.

Your response appears to me to have merely validated the observation. I understand your feelings, but I am simply trying to show you inconsistencies in your position.

I don't want or expect you to change them; merely to understand them better.

I appreciate the help .. but it's you who I think needs it. I don't say that in anger or with malice .. it's what I believe the truth.

Let's start from your point about a black conservative for president .. my question is who? There has never been a credible one.

But let's take it a step further and invent one .. like Colin Powell.

Should black people support Colin Powell .. Hell to the NO .. would be the correct answer. In fact, we tried to warn white people about him .. didn't listen .. just like they didn't listen when we warned them about Bush.

Powell is a fraud, always has been .. make that spineless fraud .. SEE: MyLai Massacre.

Let's invent another one .. Condi Rice.

Should black people support Condi Rice .. Hell NO.

Like Powell, tied to the Bush Administration and played a role in the worst military blunder and administration in American history. Both were lackeys at best and both support policies that blacks are decidely against.

Let's invent another .. one that I at least hold a modicum of respect for .. JC Watts.

Should black people support JC Watts .. NOPE.

Good quarterback, supports the wrong policies.

So I'm not sure what you're trying to say .. Is it more correct to support someone because of the color of their skin, or is it more correct to support someone because they promote the correct policies that are in your interests?

I vote the latter.

I haven't advocated a position in this thread, bac. I've only sought to explore yours.

And I think everyone, you and I included, needs "help" in the form of continual challenges to their beliefs.

By discussing and debating our values we come to realize when we are wrong and to understand when we are right. To live otherwise is to live in complacency and ignorance.

I agree with you and I misread your thoughts.

I apologize.

Honestly, you're a hard person to read. I'm not sure I know where you stand on a variety of issues.

We should talk more.

Even better point.
