Perry has been embraced by national media as a big-talking Tea Party darling with a charming Texas swagger, likely to grab the GOP nomination in the presidential race.
But another ideological Texan is still hanging on. The small government-touting, war-bashing U.S. Congressman Ron Paul has a loyal base and lots of cash. The 2012 race will be the congressman's third bid for the presidency after two unsuccessful campaigns in 1988 and 2008.
At tonight's GOP debate, The Associated Press suggests watching out for a Texas-style showdown between the two candidates.
