Egyptian men arrested for “promoting sexual deviancy” and “debauchery” on social media will be subjected to anal examinations ahead of their Oct. 1 trial, Amnesty International said on Saturday.

Their arrest is part of a wider crackdown against homosexuality that started last week when a group of people were seen raising a rainbow flag at a concert, a rare public show of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in the conservative Muslim country.

At least 11 people have since been arrested, Amnesty said, and one man has been sentenced to six years in jail after local media launched a highly critical campaign against those who raised the rainbow flag at a Mashrou’ Leila concert, a popular Lebanese alternative rock band whose lead singer is openly gay.

Amnesty said the Forensic Medical Authority was due to subject the six men to anal examinations to determine whether they have had homosexual sex.

Judicial sources said any defendant accused of “debauchery” or “sexual deviancy”, a euphemism for homosexuality in Egypt, is subjected to a medical examination based on an order from the Public Prosecutor.

“Allegations of torturing or insulting those medically examined are lies not worth responding to. The examinations are carried out by a forensic doctor who swore to respect his profession and its ethics,” one judicial source said.

A police officer was stabbed and terrified pedestrians mowed down during a terror attack PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION in Canada.

The 30-year-old rammed a van into a police car sending the officer flying 15 feet into the air. He then jumped out and knifed the cop several times.

Police chased down the attacker as he drove through packed streets in downtown Edmonton.

He then plowed into four pedestrians leaving them with multiple injuries before he was arrested after flipping the van on to its side.

Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht said the incidents are being investigated “as an act of terror” and that the rented van had an ISIS flag in the front seat, he confirmed.

A knifeman who killed two people in an alleged terror attack at a busy train station in Marseilles has been shot dead by police.

A major police operation is currently underway at the Gare de Marseilles-Saint-Charles station after earlier reports of gunfire.

Local police are warning people to avoid the area while they carry out an operation, and reports from a French news channel say two people have died during the incident.

Eyewitnesses claim a man was seen brandishing a knife while others reported hearing shots fired.

The incident comes just hours after a terror attack in Canada left several hurt.

A kidnapper has been jailed after police stopped him for driving while disqualified and found a crying woman in the boot of his car.

Shafak Abbas was approached by specialist firearms officers as he sat in his gold Mercedes on a residential street in east London.

When questioned the driver admitted that he was not insured for his vehicle, police grew suspicious about his behavior and decided to search the car.

Abbas then told them that a woman was locked in the boot.

Officers opened the boot and found the distressed victim inside crying.

Footage captured on a body-camera worn by one of the officers also shows the discovery of a gun in the car’s footwell.

Abbas was arrested at the scene and charged with kidnap, driving whilst disqualified, no insurance and possession of a firearm.

French prosecutors have confirmed 29-year-old illegal Tunisian migrant Ahmed Hanachi, who fatally stabbed two young women at a train station in Marseille, southern France, had avoided deportation after authorities failed to detain him the day before the attack.

Furthermore, the Paris prosecutor’s office has confirmed the Tunisian had been arrested around a dozen times since his illegal entry into the country and operated under seven different identities.

The victims of the attack, who died after being stabbed whilst waiting for a train at Saint Charles station on Sunday, have also been named as cousins 21-year-old Laura Paumier (right) and 20-year-old Mauranne Harel (left) by French media.

Hanachi, whose identity was confirmed by Tunisian authorities as one of their nationals Monday evening, was shot and killed by French soldiers on anti-terrorism duties as part of Operation Sentinel after he launched the attack.

Witnesses reported the terrorist shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“Allah is greater” in Arabic) whilst slitting one girl’s throat and then stabbing the other with a knife. Islamic State’s news agency Aamaq claimed the attack shortly after.

How the teachings of Islam could help us prevent more sexual abuse scandals: Harvey Weinstein is just another case of a powerful man abusing women because we live in a society that lets him get away with it, but we can change that.


If the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse revelations shocked you, then you’re dangerously ignorant to reality. According to RAINN, an American is assaulted every 98 seconds, one out of every six women will deal with rape or attempted rape in her lifetime, and 90 per cent of rape victims are women.

I’m a Muslim, and a civil rights lawyer with a special interest in advocating for women’s rights. My advocacy is informed not just by the law, but by strategies detailed in Islamic teachings and Prophet Muhammad’s example to pre-empt sexual abuse. Yes, the cancer of sexual abuse against women that we see in Christian majority America.

The fact is that states are not moral actors – people are. But when people let bad behavior go unchallenged we inch closer to societal anarchy. In truth, any expectation that we can simply pass a law to stop sexual abuse is foolish.

This is where Islamic teachings and Prophet Muhammad’s example provide a solution that no state truly can.

The Khalifa of Islam said, “Chapter four, verse two of the Holy Quran clarifies that women were not created out of the body of a man or from his rib. Rather, the Quran testifies to the fact that men and women were created from a single soul and are of the same kind and species.”

The Quran further obliges men to provide for a woman’s every financial need. When it comes to the Islamic concept of Hijab, it is men who are first commanded to never gawk at women. The Quran obliges women to dress modestly as a covenant with Allah.

A massive truck bomb blast "flattened" central Mogadishu, Somalia, leaving more than 230 dead and hundreds injured.

The bomb was the largest ever to hit the African nation and is the work of the al-Shabab Islamic group who has been conducting smaller bombings in the city for years.

As Somalians were going about their daily business in Mogadishu, Muslims detonated the massive truck bomb, ripping the facades from buildings, and reducing whole streets to rubble.

People near the blast site were literally evaporated where they stood; the streets are now littered with empty sandals where shoppers once stood.

Photos and video of the blast are nearly unbelievable.

On Saturday morning, Maryam Abdullahi Gedi made breakfast for her family, packed her books and laptop and set out across Mogadishu, the battered capital of Somalia, to see her supervisor at Banadir University about her thesis. She was excited about the prospect of her graduation as a medical doctor this week.

Her father – who flew in from the UK to attend the ceremony – found himself at her funeral instead. Gedi, 24, was among more than 300 people killed in a massive bombing in the center of the city on Saturday afternoon.

The death toll from the attack is expected to rise. Rescue workers say the true total of those killed by a truck bomb containing hundreds of kilograms of military grade and homemade explosives will probably never be known. The intense heat generated by the blast, which also ignited a petrol tanker, means that almost no trace of some victims remains. Others were rapidly buried by their relatives, in line with Islamic custom.

“One hundred and sixty of the bodies could not be recognized and so they were buried by the government [on Sunday],” Aden Nur, a doctor at the city’s Madina hospital, said. “The others were buried by their relatives. Over a hundred injured were also brought here.”

Casualties included senior civil servants, five paramedic volunteers and a journalist, but most were ordinary people on one of the busiest thoroughfares of Mogadishu, a city hit by multiple bombings in recent years.
