A Chambersburg Area Senior High School chemistry teacher was arrested Friday, April 8, and charged with multiple sexual offenses involving a student, according to Chambersburg police.

Benjamin A. Duran-Tobias, 29, was placed on administrative leave by the Chambersburg Area School District following a report of unlawful contact with a student.

A 30-year-old teacher in western Iowa has been arrested and charged with sex crimes against a minor.

Benjamin Hanson was a first year teacher at Eagle Grove high school. He was arrested on Friday on warrants out of Dubuque County. Hanson is charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and enticing a minor under the age of 16 for sexual purpose.

A victim who was a student at Bloomingdale High School came forward to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office saying from 2017 through 2021, Matthew Hike, 33, molested him more than 50 times.

Detectives learned of the incidents through a previous investigation involving Hike where other victims were asked to come forward.

“It’s sad. It’s sad that it went on for so long. That nobody noticed or that this victim did not feel comfortable enough to come forward. We are glad that he has now. We hope that we can find justice for him,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Marco Villarreal.

After bonding out of jail on March 24, Hike was arrested again on April 6, 2022, for the most recent allegations. He is now facing additional charges including three counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation and one count of Authority Figure Soliciting or Engaging in Lewd Conduct with a Student.

“So now this is the second victim that has come forward. We still have that fear that there’s even more out there. So if there are, we are putting a call out there. Please come forward,” said Villarreal.

"Children should be able to trust their teachers. Individuals who break that trust and abuse their power must be rooted out and brought to justice," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our investigations revealed that this suspect broke the trust of his victims and our community on more than one occasion, and we will do everything in our power to make sure that he is held accountable for his despicable actions and can never target another juvenile."

Another Fortuna High School student has come forward to make allegations against the math teacher arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting two students.

Gary Landergen, who’d returned to Fortuna High School this year, where he’d previously taught in the 1990s before leaving for Argonaut High School in Amador County, was arrested on a Ramey warrant Wednesday after “at least two students” came forward to report they had been the victim of “inappropriate and unwelcome groping and/or fondling by Landergen,” according to a press release.

Fortuna police detectives have also located witnesses who independently “observed some of the alleged misconduct,” according to the release.

Fortuna Police Chief Casey Day told the Journal a third student came forward to police late Thursday and recounted “multiple conversations" the student found uncomfortable and inappropriate.

“They were conversations that related to specific body parts and specific outfits,” Day said.

A public school teacher in Harnett County was arrested Wednesday for indecent liberties with a student, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation began after the parents of a Harnett Central Middle School student filed a complaint against Shawn C. Hicks, 27.

In all, three students were found to be victims of his, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

All incidents happened away from the school, deputies said.

Hicks was charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a student. He was jailed on a $50,000 bond.

The district said Hicks worked as a science teacher at Harnett Central Middle School.

As a result of this investigation, 47-year-old Michael Freeman of Waynesboro has been charged with one count of sexual battery, in violation of Virginia Code: 18.2-67.4.

James Treasure faced the Victoria County Court on Monday, where he was sentenced to a total of four years and eight months behind bars after pleading guilty to producing and possessing child abuse material, and two counts of an indecent act with a child under 16.

The 42-year-old must serve at least 19 months behind bars before being eligible for parole and has agreed to use a chemical sex drive inhibitor upon release.

The teacher would prey on his students by inviting them into his classroom at lunchtime, giving one of his victims chocolates before kneeling down and tickling her, and then touching her vagina.

The 42-year-old had already been jailed in Queensland after police caught him filming children on a beach in 2018.

When Queensland detectives searched his accommodation, they found 3900 child abuse images stored on his laptop, as well as shoes fitted with secret recording devices.

They also uncovered videos of him having intercourse with a childlike sex doll in a school uniform, and films of sex acts on which he had digitally imposed his own face and that of one of his students.

While Treasure was still in Queensland, Victorian police raided his Melbourne home, uncovering dozens of CDs, DVDs and hard drives of child abuse material, almost 100 videos he had filmed of children, and three covert watch cameras.

Treasure had also collected 30,000 videos and images of activities from the schools where he taught, the court heard, and he kept a diary of his interactions with students.

A teacher at Roanoke-Benson High School is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse after a relationship with a 14-year-old student.

According to court documents, 40-year-old Trisha Phillippe is being charged with a single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and another of distributing explicit material to minor.

Those documents say that during an interview with the student, he disclosed text messages of a sexual nature between him and Phillippe - including photos of female breasts in a bra and exposed.

Phillipe admitted in the verified statement of arrest that she did send the photos, and also received photos from him. She also admitted to kissing at the school.

The student confirmed that on three recent occasions, he stayed after school with Phillippe - alleging the last occasion happened April 1 where she kissed him in her classroom area and also grabbed his groin. Phillippe says that was an accident.

Phillippe was not in court Thursday. Her attorney says she is currently hospitalized and receiving mental health treatment.
