Ok, two things at least.

1) An aircraft can be turned into the wind, try doing that with an island!!

2) That runway doesn't have arrester cables.

It may not have arrester cables but at either end the can either try and power up and get back in the air or make a water landing.

The scariest would have to be the one in Lukla, Nepal.. Tenzing-Hillary Airport

That runway in Nepal has no go around option, Its you either land it there or you crash.. into the mountain.
