Is the US Becoming a Third World Country?

I didn't know the that Americans had to worry about 3rd world viruses, or the the poor in India had access to the internet, cable television, high school educations and basically the highest standard of living that the 'poor' have as compared to any other country.

Keep denying it till it is too late buddy.

Is this some sort of victory scream? What the heck, Dune?

At most we'll become like Britain, who is far from "third world"... What is it with fatalistic idiots running around screaming "Doom" nowadays?

Do you actually believe that we'll be living in clay huts without electricity tomorrow?

perhaps, but the disparity between rich and poor continues to grow and the middle class continues to shrink - not good trends

not to mention the growing number of homeless and poorly educated - even the educated are taking service industry jobs

fortunately, there is an upward trend in employment but too many of those jobs are in service industries

Dammit Damo, for a brilliant man you are some good at mis-interpretation.

http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/third_world.htm

You really beleive I would cheer our demise?

As schadenfreude correctly points out, the gap between the haves and have nots is growing, and quickly at that. How long till the underfed, the under-employed, those with no hope take to the streets, take matters into their own hands, take out their anger against those more deserving than their own families (as happens every single week in this country).

What then, when militant rule becomes imperative to preserve order? If you doubt we head this way, I suggest research and preparedness for the tidal wave of blood aproaching.
This is why fools such as Yurt and Bravo and Damsel Yankme deny the signs, since it is the policies they support which hasten our decline.

Again, the worst we will see is something like Britain. This "US will be teh Third World!" is total rubbish. If you look at the list of third world nations on your link, tell me again when we'll be living in clay huts without electricity. Give me the scenario that brings us there without becoming unnecessarily fatalistic.

I can think of a few things, maybe a cataclysmic meteor strike. Maybe full on global thermonuclear war...

And you should really look into the jobs reports, really read it, there aren't as many as are being reported. Although I notice that nobody seems to complain now about McJobs like they did when Bush and Co were claiming these were great. Our FED is lowering the value of our dollar and lying to us about it, trying to tell us there is extremely low inflation, when by standards used to measure inflation in 1979 we'd be a bit over 10% inflation...

Then when they release jobs reports they are flush with birth/death adjustment (175,000) and the McJobs (62,000) when you take that out the net new jobs in the private sector ads up to 7,000.... 7,000 that's all of them.

Even with all of that, we still won't be seeing "third world" status, not without something epic, and I mean globally epic, happening.

So it is your opinion that the US is becoming a 3rd world nation because the rich are getting richer. Interesting. You think in a developed economy the rich should become poorer? Sorry, but that makes no fucking sense. Furthermore, it shows how detached from the rest of the world you are, as you obviously have no clue what a third world country is like. One of my best friends is from Papua New Guinea, one of the poorest countries in the world. You'd be a damn fool to tell him that the US is a third world country... oh wait, you're already a damn fool, my mistake.

I seriously doubt most Americans would even know how to build a clay hut, especially with no electricity! You overestimate our society!

Back when Democrats were trying to win the White House, I said that Obama's policies would leave them trying to convince us how wonderful our shit sandwiches taste, and how nice and cozy we are with our neighbors, huddled around the burning barrel. Damn, it took less than 4 years, and here we are!! Now we have kenny warning us of becoming third world... well, yeah, if we let Democrats keep running the show, it shouldn't take but about 4 more years for that... I can see it.

I hear pinheads throw out this argument often, and I wonder if you have ever stopped to evaluate the stupidity of what you are saying? OF COURSE the rich are getting richer... it's what rich people do... it's how they became rich! And OF COURSE the gap is widening, because the poor don't get richer, they are not motivated to do that, or they wouldn't be poor, they would be rich! ...DUH!

This "factoid" doesn't mean we need the government to take from the rich to give to the poor, in order to try and "even the field" or whatever... it wouldn't do any good anyway, because the rich would still be motivated to make money and the poor still wouldn't... in fact, they would be even LESS motivated, if they had the government stealing the wealth of others for them! If you took everyone's wealth away, and redistributed it all evenly across the board, so that every American had exactly the same amount of wealth.... within a decade, the rich would once again be rich and the poor would once again be poor.

That's one strange philosophy you have, Dix.

"If you took everyone's wealth away, and redistributed it all evenly across the board, so that every American had exactly the same amount of wealth.... within a decade, the rich would once again be rich and the poor would once again be poor.

It appears you believe in fate/destiny. A poor person is destined to be poor, regardless?

Next you'll be telling us it's God's will. People used to believe it was God's will when someone became ill. Your views are straight out of the Middle Ages.

That's right dix, there used to be a middle class too, before Bush II, remember that? Motivated, hardworking, taxpayers, whose existence you don't even admit to.

There's still plenty of wealth left in America. It just that the wealthy 10% of American's have 90 percent of the wealth and getting richer and richer, while the rest of America gets poorer and poorer.

Okay, here we see a classic example of a pinhead building his own imaginary post to reply to... it's so cute! Dixie never said the first word about "God's will" or anything related to fate and destiny. But that's no reason for the pinhead not to make that what he heard Dixie say, and respond accordingly!

Look you fucking retard reject, it's not a "philosophy" it's a FACT OF LIFE... Some people are more motivated to make money and become wealth than other people! It really doesn't matter what they start out with or where they grow up! Dirt poor minorities living in abject poverty in the worst projects in America, have risen up from that to become uber-wealthy and mega-successful. People who are given more money than they can count, have squandered and wasted every penny of it, only to end up destitute... it is all a matter of individual motivations. You can't make someone become motivated to be successful... it is something the individual HAS to do on their own!

That's right dix, there used to be a middle class too, before Bush II, remember that? Motivated, hardworking, taxpayers, whose existence you don't even admit to.

There is still a middle class, I am part of it, dumbass. The same applies there as well, some people are more motivated to be more than middle class, and some people are fine with being middle class... you can't change people, it's how they are.

There's still plenty of wealth left in America. It just that the wealthy 10% of American's have 90 percent of the wealth and getting richer and richer, while the rest of America gets poorer and poorer.

Read what I posted again, pinhead.... YES... the Rich get richer because that's what rich people DO! That's how they became RICH! Poor people get poorer because they lack the motivation to become rich... that's why they are POOR! If they didn't lack the motivation to become rich, they wouldn't be poor, they would become rich! What your ignorant ass wants to try and do, is steal the wealth from those motivated to be successful, and give it to those who are not motivated. That won't change the motivation of people, other than possibly DE-motivating someone to be rich... why the fuck bother with it, if someone is going to steal it from you? So in essence, what you want, is a society where everyone is POOR!

MORON!

The OP was actually the topic of discussion down at the waterhole today. We were rudely interrupted several times, by a herd of stampeading elephants (fucking poachers!!), a mob of militant revolutionaries, the persuing army of fortune, and then a rival tribe that arrived earlier than they're supposed to.

Of course the rich are getting richer at a faster pace.
It's getting easier to get rich.
A lesson in macro economics, hard work counts for less and less.
It's much more about working smart or in smart occupations.
