Is "The Messiah" a racial slur?

Is Calling Obama "The Messiah" racially based?

and I say it is absurd to pretend it isn't.
In what way? You've made no argument that would point out any racial connotation in that, and the only argument you made hoping to make a connection was shot down in one post.

Just face it, people talk about others "worshiping" political leaders all the time, it's even in popular culture. I even pointed out to you one instance (there are far more) where it was used in song to describe how people used to follow Bush brainlessly.

If anyone was going to take offence at Obama being called "The Messiah" surely it should be Christian types?

Then why won't you answer my question? Would you refer to Obama as "The Messiah" to any of your African American friends or aquantences?
I did answer your question. I'll go find the link for you and put it here, then I'll save it just in case you mindlessly run around saying I never answered your question.

That's simply not true. I can't help it if you're ignoring the arguments I've made. Also the fact that you won't even attempt to answer my question is pretty damnig proof that I am right.

No, I consider it a description of how many of his followers speak of him.

I consider it a description of how the people that hate him describe how many of his supporters speak of him.

The way I see it, the people that hate him are much much much more passionate about their hate for him than his supporters are about their support for him.

Hey, Mott. Here's the link I promised.

I thought it was obvious. I would and do. I also noted that you were simply wrong, people constantly talked about Bush and his "worshipers"... There is nothing racist about pointing out that you are trying to Deify your Glorious Leader. The attempt to draw the conversation down to this level of inanity is simply a different strawman, but one that's lost its straw. It's just a shirt with a few pieces of straw still in it, moldy from the rain.

BTW - Your misspelling make me wonder if you even know what the word means...

Yep. This. Exactly.

I can be in a conversation & say something along the lines of "there are legit criticisms of Obama here" or "Obama definitely blew this aspect of things, however," and then go on to offer something that would hardly qualify as 'praise,' and get an immediate "bow down to your beloved messiah" in response.

It's a knee-jerk, hater reaction over 90% of the time - nothing more.

But is that racially motivated is the question? I say it is and I say the fact that they have never said that "the Messiah" about a white leader is damning evidence to that fact.

I don't "hate" him, that's silly. Were he not making crappy policy and bad decisions he'd definitely be a person I'd love to hang with, he seems funny and intelligent as well as quite personable. He just has an unfortunate lack of leadership skills, is unqualified (as exemplified by his horrid response to the Gulf), and a bit disingenuous in things like GITMO, rendition, wireless wiretapping, Afghan prisons, habeas corpus, and other things I disliked about Bush...

When a follower constantly posts how he can do no wrong it doesn't take a very far leap into "Deity" for those watching from the outside.

And I say you are just plain absurd. There is nothing racial, or racially derogatory about the title in question. I don't even get how someone makes such an illogical leap. It's like claiming someone is a racist because they prefer vanilla ice cream over chocolate! It's just plain ignorant and stupid, and actually detracts from real problems of racism in America.

You can take this post, put my name on it, put it about at 2006, and people would be telling me how I "never criticized" blah, blah...

Seriously. I'm not kidding. It seriously is selective memory that Mott is using here.
