In an effort to gather more cash for his campaign, President Obama has decided to sell tickets to a drawing for "Dinner with Obama"...

For a $5 "donation" or higher you can be entered into a drawing where you can "win" a seat at the dinner table with President Obama. It should be noted that no donation is necessary, merely registering will put your name into the drawing.

My question is: Is this illegal gambling?

Wouldn't it depend on the laws of each state? I wonder if they thought it through before implementing it, and verified legality in every place where they are offering it. Usually you would see a list of states from which one could not enter the contest.

I'm not sure though.

You're not?

Then perhaps you didn't read the info from your own link in your failed "gotcha" thread on "cheapening the office".

You mean the link to Obama's campaign? I didn't see anything in there about states that could not participate. Did you?
