dec 30 2022 On January 6, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court could decide to take a case concerning mail-in voting in Pennsylvania, continuing the saga that began on October 31, 2019, when Gov. Tom Wolf signed into law the Republican-backed Act 77.

The problem with these mail-in voting laws, Teufel said, is that they fail to specify a place for someone to vote when they vote by mail, which violates Article 1, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution. The election clause in that section states, “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Place of Chusing Senators."

Teufel said that this clause mandates that states must specify places where federal elections are held. Because the mail-in voting law in Pennsylvania does not specify a place, it essentially allows a voter to vote from anywhere in the world. By requiring a set location, the law allows people to observe the voting process and, he said, “verify that there is nothing being done incorrectly, no corruption, no bribery, no intimidation, et cetera, happening.”

All voting must be in person and same day. I don't want to hear about invalids or combat soldiers. You start making exceptions and you get what we have now where half the ballot are mailed to people who sell them to the DNC.

Not sure how anything in the quoted Constitution passage means that mail-in voting has no place. Indeed, it seems to be perfectly within Constitutional requirements, as each State in question has determined the times, places, and manner in such a case. The manner being mail, the places being the homes of the citizens that are voting and the counting locations they are dropped or sent to.

Question: Why would you want that to be the case? The US, almost singularly, is allowing large-scale mail-in voting. The entire rest of the world has rejected it as being too open to fraud and corruption. Maybe all those other countries, some of which have tried it and rejected it, are on to something?

Well, first and foremost, we aren’t other countries and there are eight states who do mail in voting for all and it’s quite successful and fraud free.

Canada, Germany, Poland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary allow all citizens to vote by mail if they choose.

Mail-in voting started to allow soldiers and Americans abroad to exercise the right to vote. It soon was given to the elderly and the disabled who might have difficulty voting. If you are out of state, like on a vacation, you could also mail-in. It got bigger during Covid because it was determined that having people queue in lines was a great way to make an epidemic worse.
Mail-in voting is counted the same as walk-in. The ballot is taken to the voter's assigned precinct. Then, if it was signed, the signature is matched to the one on file. The name has to be in the precinct log book. If so, the vote is processed and the person is marked as voted.
The right thinks mail-in is corrupt because they are told over and over and over that it is. They do not check the facts. They just believe. Our election system is extremely good and every fucking one is checked. The bad votes are caught and punished. It generally is a person using a dead wife's ballot. Several Reopubs got caught using the dead wives ballot this year.

We have had mail in voting in my state (Colorado) long before covid, as have a good deal of other states. Even before we switched to primarily mail-in, the majority of citizens here were already using absentee ballots to mail in. It's worked quite well.
