Report questions giving to Supriya Jindal charity
Associated Press/AP Online
NEW ORLEANS - A political watchdog group in Washington says donors to Gov. Bobby Jindal's campaigns also have contributed big money to a charitable foundation headed by his wife.
Louisiana campaign finance law limits individual donors' direct campaign contributions to $5,000 per election cycle. But the donors gave the Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana's Children much more.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington says nine companies collectively gave $790,000 to the charity. At least eight companies that donated to the charity together received more than $113 million in state payments since 2008, CREW said. Jindal spokesman Kyle Plotkin on Thursday derided the report as a liberal attempt to distract from the governor's agenda, which includes sweeping ethics reform.
