IRS targeting not directed by White House

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have just released a full transcript of testimony from a key witness in the investigation of IRS targeting of conservatives — and it appears to confirm that the initial targeting did originate with a low-level employee in the Cincinnati office.

It also shows a key witness and IRS screening manager – a self described conservative Republican — denying any communication with the White House or senior IRS officials about the targeting.

The ranking Dem on the committee, Elijah Cummings, has promised that the account provided by the witness — the IRS manager in Cincinnati who supervised the screeners of applications for tax exempt status, the self-described conservative Republican — would undercut Committee chairman Darrell Issa’s suggestion that the decision to target conservative groups had originated in Washington.

So here is a question never answered by the lefties as they are covering for their Dear Leader. Why would these "rogue agents" do this? Why are procedures at the IRS so lax that this could happen?

If you answer "the government is so big and vast, nobody can know what is going on" then aren't you making the argument for smaller government?

Where did this "rogue agents" thing come from to begin with? Who are you quoting?

N/A.

Irrespective of the argument of whether the White House directed the IRS targeting or not, half the public believes they did .. and all these controversies are pushing Obama closer to lame-duck status.

CNN poll: Obama’s approval down 8 points in one month
June 17, 2013

A new poll offers the most concrete evidence yet that President Obama is paying a political price for the series of controversies that have dogged his administration at the start of its second term.

A CNN/Opinion Research poll published Monday shows Obama’s approval rating dropping from 53 percent a month ago to 45 percent. Meanwhile, his disapproval rate rose nine points to 54 percent — just shy of an all-time high for his presidency.

The poll shows that Americans, by a 61-35 margin, disapprove of how Obama is handling government surveillance of U.S. citizens.

And as with an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll earlier this month, the CNN poll shows Obama is particularly losing ground on the issues of trust and honesty. While 58 percent of respondents in May told CNN the president was honest and trustworthy, that number has now dropped to 49 percent.

I don't know why rogue agents were doing this, and yes it appears the procedures at the IRS were so lax this happened. The procedures should be and likely have been fixed.
