BlackBerry not so many, and Android even fewer, according to online dating service


File this under a phenomenon looking for an explanation.

According to data collected by the online dating service OKCupid, people who carry Apple (AAPL) iPhones have more sex partners by age 30 than owners of Research in Motion (RIMM) BlackBerries or Google (GOOG) Android phones.

Women with iPhones had the most partners of all -- an average of 12.3 by age 30, compared with 10 partners for iPhone-wielding men. Men with Android phones have the fewest sex partners -- 6 by age 30.

The findings come from an OKTrends report issued Tuesday whose main focus is what kinds of photographs are most likely to get you a date (answer: shallow depth of field shot without flash in late afternoon with a digital SLR). The sex-partner portion is presumably based on answers given by OKCupid users when they sign up.

The dating service has 3.5 million active members, but only 9,785 used smartphones to shoot their profiles. According to OKTrend's Christian Rudder, that's enough to show that the smartphone-brand-sex-partner pattern is not just a matter of older, more experienced people choosing one phone over another. Rudder explains:


"We found this data as part of our general camera-efficacy analysis: we crossed all kinds of user behaviors with the camera models and found we had data on the number of sexual partners for 9,785 people with smart phones. We dropped what we found into Excel, and voila."

If you eliminate phone sex and sex with really fat chicks, I bet the numbers drop considerably.
 
If they're spending all of their time shagging about and that, why are they knocking round a dating website?
 
Actually I would have thought the numbers to be much higher.
But I grew up bartending in the 80's pre aids and promiscuous was the goal.
 
It makes it sound as though people are having sex because people have an I-phone.

Anyone willing to fuck because of the kind of cell phone you carry can't be much.
 
I have to admit that i do always insist that a young lady is able to accurately identify a telephone, when shown one, before i will proceed any further with a potential courtship.

A chap has to have some standards.

Charver, that just means she can dial 911 if she needs to. That is not always a good thing.

Therein lies the beauty.

Thanks to a non-stop diet of cheap American dramas on our telly boxes the young ladies of Britain do labour under the mistaken impression that dialling 911 will immediately connect them to the emergency services, but always commit the cardinal error of neglecting to enter the international dialling code for the United States.

I operate a sliding scale of telephone/spectral interface.

I wouldn't be so heartless as to expect the ghost of 1920s match girl to identify the latest Nokia Blackcurrant or some such. As long as they can identify a telephone as befits their era then i am more than satisfied. For those lady phantoms originally inhabiting the pre-telephone era, i have a set of printed cards featuring pictures of semaphore, pony expresses, etc.
