Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

You are enabling the commission of these crimes against children.

If the people of the church spoke out, as they should have, there would not have been this well organized plan of relocating pedo-priests and keeping their crimes a secret.

YOu are no better than these perverted priests.
More baseless allegations. :)

More baseless allegations. :)

Not at all. You know as well as I do that these priests are molesting children. YOu do nothing about it. In fact, you support the organization that protects them and transfers them to new parishes and a new crop of unsuspecting victims.

You are part of the crimes.

you are just plain dumb. Jemez Springs wasn't the diocese that the pedophiles came FROM it was were they came TO from all over the US to be hidden. For 4 decades the Catholic Church in the US sent their pedophile priests to the Paracletes for treatment and never told a single person in the church that a priest had been molesting kids.
Jamez Springs was sensationalized in the media, ultimately causing its closure, and you fell for it. Yet you call me "dumb".

In interviews, psychologists and psychiatrists who worked there said few of the clergymen fitted the image often presented in the news media.

For one thing, they said, the vast majority were not pedophiles: most had molested adolescents, not young children. In most cases, the clergymen's transgressions were driven by confusion, fear, immaturity or impulse, not by cold calculation, the therapists said. Some of the clergymen had themselves been abused as adolescents. Many seemed to know little about human sexuality, and most initially tried to deny or rationalize their experiences, insisting that they had done nothing wrong or that their victims had benefited. ...

No one can say with certainty how many of the men at Jemez Springs committed offenses after leaving the program. Dr. Feierman said he knew of only 2 men who were later arrested for sexual abuse and perhaps 5 to 10 more who had been caught in suspicious circumstances. For example, he said, one priest was later seen sitting in a hot tub in his apartment complex with two teenage boys.

Father Lechner, who became director of the treatment program in 1989, said he conducted an informal study in 1992 of 89 men treated at Jemez Springs. Only one had relapsed, he said.

Still, by the early 1990's, the number of clergymen arriving at Jemez Springs had begun to dwindle, as lawsuits over priests who had sexually abused minors made headlines in New Mexico and other states.

''The whole program became associated with 'priest pedophiles,' '' Father Lechner said. ''We felt that was unfair to the men who were coming there to deal with other issues like depression or anxiety.''

This.

As I mentioned before, my parents left the catholic church during the height of the pedophile priest scandal coming to light. But that was not all they did. My father is Clinical and Forensic Neuropsychologist. He used to provide therapy for the local Diocese. When he saw the depth of the denial and the outright cover-up, he ceased being the therapist for the priests. I don't know if any of them were pedophiles as it would have been unethical for my father to talk about their therapy. But he felt so long as the Catholic Church was engaged in a cover-up he would no longer assist them in anyway. If the Church wants to show they mean business they should turn over all pedophile priests to the proper authorities so that victims can have justice. As I have said before, every thing else being equal, if this was the Boy Scouts the outrage would be deafening.

Yes and we are going to believe Fr Lechner because he has no vested interest in downplaying the numbers. Pedophilia is considered to be a crime in which the offenders reoffend, treatment success rates are low but Slow Man here wants us to believe that the Catholic Church has some secret program that cuts re-offending down to less than one percent.

The program is successful because priests aren't your typical patient; they are inordinately influenced by God's love.

This was the Boston Archdiocese, correct?

Nope, here in New Mexico
That's too bad. When I lived in Boston I wasn't active in the Church but if I was I'd have a similar attitude- towards the Archdiocese of course. Here under the Diocese of Charlotte they have taken an active roll in addressing this problem, and have adopted policies to protect kids, as well as protect priests from false or baseless allegations.

For instance when our church started here we bought a house in the neighborhood and used the living room as a sanctuary. After we built a real sanctuary the house became the rectory, and of course the priest(s) live there. Then some of the parishioners started a youth group and they met in folks' homes, but wanted their own space so moved into the basement of the rectory. When the Diocese found out about it they closed it down because they wanted to avoid any possible appearance of impropriety.

You mentioned the Boy Scouts, which I have also been active in, and they have a similar policy to protect kids and leaders. Simply stated, we have to make sure that two adult leaders are always present when the boys are around. For instance we have a separate room in out clubhouse where we hold interview evaluations of the boys and whenever these are done there is always a second adult present.
