I'm a socialist, not a social liberal.

I care about a more comprehensive public sector and a more regulated private sector.

I care about universal healthcare and education.

Except for women's reproductive rights, I usually don't pay much attention to social issues like affirmative action or gun control.
That's why despite my far left positions, other liberals don't consider me liberal.

Still, based solely on who voted for what,
this SCOTUS affirmative action decision has to be yet another universal fuckup.

In general, I favor a color blind approach to race.
But given the total fucking assholes who voted the way that they did,
the decision just HAS TO BE WRONG.
It makes sense to me, but in this case, I have to be wrong as well.

Republican SCOTUS appointees need to be dissected for organ donation,
their useless brains to be shit-canned as we don't transplant those.
They are without exception detestable people.

If I find myself agreeing with them on anything,
I have to do some serious reflecting on myself.

No liberal I know in real life was talking about drag shows, critical race theory, or wokeism until MAGAs started balling like little girls about it. And the only reason they got their panties in a twist is because rightwing media personalities ordered them to feign outrage.

Agree totally.

So you are saying blacks are too stupid to get into college without affirmative action?

How very rascist of you.

In a capitalist system, I agree. In a world of limited resources, capitalism is the best way to go. When technology provides unlimited energy combined with transmutation of matter (fusion) then capitalism will cease to stop in modern societies. Unless we royally fuck ourselves, this could happen in our lifetimes.

Liberals are talking about abortion and guns....just like they did 30 years ago. Some things never change. Agreed on the MAGAs and the RW although I think that only works on the ignorant and stupid....many of whom are represented on JPP. :)

Some think that way, as you do, but most seem to think about it in economic terms. Help the poor get a better education.

Personally, I'd like to focus more upon making K-12 schools better in poor areas than handing out college scholarships for those who have a poor HS education. If my tax dollars are going to be spent upon poorly educated adults, I'd rather give them work programs like FDR's CCC or the Peace Corps.

For the development and marketing of consumer products, you can't beat capitalism.:good4u:

Liberals have been talking about reproductive freedom and sensible gun control for 50 years, and nobody ever called it wokeism until Fox News coopted and weaponized the buzzword

You also supported the killing of SC Justices and politicians with whom you disagree.

My initial question is how white of a world do you live in if you’ve never heard people talk about wokeism? Do you not have any black friends or read black writers or listen to black thought or protest?

I've had black colleagues at work and in sports,
and I've had black neighbors with whom I was friendly,
but admittedly, I've never had a close black friend with one major exception,
a short term relationship while in college.

My world is much whiter now as a retiree than it was when before I retired twenty-one years ago.

It's a de facto situation, not a planned one.
My relationships with black colleagues have never been strained,
but at the same time, it's in closer personal friendships that these topics are generally discussed.

When I dated this African American woman I met after fighting her brother in a boxing match,
there was always a sense that it wouldn't be a permanent deal
because both of us were always avoiding awkward situations.

She was a really great young lady, smart and fun, but I didn't learn anything about the black experience from her.
If it were meant to last, these topics would have come up, I'm sure.

Agreed. It fueled the technological revolution. Like anything, there's trade offs, but innovations like unlimited energy would change all that.

I thought the Left came up with "woke", just another word for civil liberties? Sure, Fox weaponized it into something evil. It's 21st century version of "the Red Scare".

Capitalism prevents the production of the best product
because different private corporations
have proprietary rights over different good features
that can thus never be combined.

Unfettered free enterprise also fails to protect workers, consumers,
and even the smaller investors in the ownership.

It also dawned on me you’re in your 70’s and it’s understandable you may not be up on all cultural things going on (and that’s not intended as an insult). It just comes across as shocking for liberals to almost proudly proclaim they know no one who speaks of the black struggle and rhetoric around it. (and how the word woke seeps into usage aka #stayewokefam among groups of people)
