Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood dotted with taquerias and Mexican grocery stores “turned into a ghost town” by Monday afternoon, after Trump was sworn into office, according to a report by Bloomberg.

By Tuesday morning, several shops in Little Village, which is also known as the “Mexico of the Midwest,” were closed.

“Business was just down, people were staying home, people were worried about: one the cold, but two, they were fearful of engaging with ICE,” Mike Rodriguez, an alderman for the 22nd ward, which includes Little Village, told Bloomberg.

SO an entire town went ghost over Trump’s deportations, just goes to show how bad this problem is. Deport the entire town! Literally it is a town of criminals.

They are worried because they know they are breaking the law!

They are only worried now because they fear the consequences of breaking our laws. They knew they were doing it before, and had no reason to fear. Now they do.

Most illegals came to America searching for a better life for themselves & their families (which is pretty true for the ancestors of most American citizens, as well), and most are hard working & contribute to society.

Yes, they're "illegal" - but to characterize them as "criminals" is not accurate, imo. Many come from unstable countries and often desperate situations.

I understand that illegal immigration is a major problem that needs to be addressed. But we could have some humanity while we do that.

They are criminals.

The law for illegal entry into the United States is found in Title 8, U.S.C. Sections 1324 and 1325. ***These laws make it a crime to enter the country without authorization, and can result in civil penalties and criminal sanctions.*** (Asterisks are mine).

Penalties
  • First offense: Fines and up to six months in prison

  • Subsequent offenses: Fines and up to two years in prison

  • Marriage fraud: Fines of up to $250,000 and up to five years in prison

  • Immigration-related entrepreneurship fraud: Fines and up to five years in prison

  • Reentry: Harsher penalties for each additional reentry

If you commit a crime, you are a criminal.
