BEIJING - Hundreds of Tibetans in Lhasa have been detained by Chinese security officers after two self-immolation protests against Chinese rule over Tibet, according to U.S.-funded broadcaster, stoking concerns of spreading unrest among Tibetans in China.

Locals detained are being held in detention centers in and around Lhasa while many of those from outside the Tibet Autonomous Region have been expelled, Radio Free Asia said.

On Sunday, two Tibetan men set themselves on fire in Lhasa, state news agency Xinhua said, the first time in four years of a major Tibetan protest against Chinese rule. One of the men died.

China has branded the self-immolators "terrorists" and criminals and has blamed exiled Tibetans and the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, for inciting them

The Dalai Lama has urged Tibetian Buddists not to self immolate ( extreme destructive karma, at the crucial time of death).
But the young are sick of being exild to Dharmasala, India - the "home" of Tibetian Buddhists for now. Recall Buddha was from India.

It is despicable what the Chinese do, scream about "interference in their internal affairs" - this from the same Communists who used to scream about western hegemony during the 60's -70's ( pre Ping).

China also has 'selected" the nextt incarnation of the bodhisatttva Dalai Lama:

His Holiness remarks: http://articles.timesofindia.indiat...623_1_reincarnation-dalai-lamas-panchen-lamas

DHARAMSHALA: The supreme Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, on Saturday put to rest all speculations about his reincarnation by issuing a clear declaration here on Saturday, stating that a person who reincarnates has the sole legitimate authority over where and how he or she takes rebirth and how that reincarnation is to be recognized.

"I will leave clear written instructions about this. Bear in mind that, apart from the reincarnation recognized through such legitimate methods, no recognition or acceptance should be given to a candidate chosen for political ends by anyone, including those in the People's Republic of China," said the Dalai Lama in his statement.

The declaration further states: "Reincarnation is a phenomenon which should take place either through the voluntary choice of the concerned person or at least on the strength of his or her karma, merit and prayers. It is a reality that no one else can force the person concerned, or manipulate him or her," he added.

Indicating China's interruption in appointing the religious heads at its own, he declared that it is particularly inappropriate for Chinese communists, who explicitly reject even the idea of past and future lives, let alone the concept of reincarnate Tulkus, to meddle in the system of reincarnation and especially the reincarnations of the Dalai Lamas and Panchen Lamas

Tibetian Budd. understanding of death

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/tibet/understand/dying.html

The next stage in this process is coming to understand that at the time of death only spiritual accomplishments will be of any worth. Material possessions, friends and relatives, worldly acclaim and power all vanish at the time of death, leaving nothing behind. None of these can be carried over into the next life. Moreover, one's future birth will be determined by one's actions in this life, and so one should resolve to practice meditation and other religious activities diligently.

It is also important not to think that in one's next lifetime one will necessarily be born as a human. According to Buddhist teachings on rebirth, a human life is very rare, and it is much more likely that one will be born in some other life situation, and if this happens one's chances for becoming aware of the problems of cyclic existence and seeking a solution are greatly diminished. Humans are uniquely situated in cyclic existence: we are intelligent enough to recognize the problems and sufferings of cyclic existence (unlike lower types of beings such as animals), and we are not so overwhelmed by either suffering or happiness that we are blinded to the realities of cvclic existence. A person who understands this situation should become keenly aware of death and resolve to "extract the essence" of the present life.(more)

Rubbish. I did not tell him to vote for the other side. I asked him a question as he stated the Ds were all good on this one. I wanted to know if he was delusional.

There is a very high likelihood that I will vote Libertarian in this election as I did in the last. I don't much like the way things are going and these two parties are pretty much a Hydra.
Much good stuff to read back thru, I will not vote for the duopoly either - neither Obama nor Romney understands "American Exceptionalism" doesn't have to be at the point of a gun(drone)

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna vote for Gary Johnson (Libertarian) - he was a good Gov. of Mexico, and independent thinker - whether one agree's or not
-he's not driven so much by ideology.Or at least the same old tiresome lib v. con crappola.

He's also done much good work with NORML. I was thinking GREEENS too - but don't think they are on the Florida ballot.
I've become more libertarian - not the extreme of Ron Paul, but getting government out of virtually every damn aspect of life.
I also confess to Federalist tendencies, and putting that together -as well as Obama and Romney are BOTH unacceptable -is why Johnson will get my vote.
