We've had a few of them lately. As your article notes, we're at a peak period of solar activity. Mid-day on the 17th would be a good day to watch DVDs. LOL

A solar storm slammed into Earth over the weekend, and it's possible that another one could strike later on Monday (Aug. 8).

Classified as "moderate" by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center(opens in new tab), the G2 geomagnetic storm, which pummeled our planet on Sunday (Aug. 7), was the result of a solar wind stream, or charged particles from the sun, striking Earth's magnetic field. A second storm, classified as a G1 or "minor" storm, may hit sometime today, NOAA predicted.

Potential Impacts: Area of impact primarily poleward of 55 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude.
Induced Currents - Power grid fluctuations can occur. High-latitude power systems may experience voltage alarms.
Spacecraft - Satellite orientation irregularities may occur; increased drag on low Earth-orbit satellites is possible.
Radio - HF (high frequency) radio propagation can fade at higher latitudes.
Aurora - Aurora may be seen as low as New York to Wisconsin to Washington state.

Driving social chaos. Even without this problem Michael Yon says it is reasonable to expect a billion people to be dead by the end of 2025 due to the triangle of death...Pandemic/War/Famine.

TOP! is abnormally high quality and we play a lot, but we are both clear that our politics are very different.
 
Back to the subject: Not upgrading and hardening the electricity grid as we spend (mostly waste) gobs of money is going to go down as gross negligence.
