When someone tells you who they are, believe them.
Shock DJ Howard Stern, who hosted Donald Trump on his radio show frequently throughout the 1990s and 2000s, said Tuesday that the Republican nominee’s “misogynistic, sexist” comments are an integral part of the candidate’s personality.
"None of this was hidden," Stern said, as CNN’s KFILE reports. "This is who Trump is. He was always bombastic. He always rated women. He always talked in a misogynistic, sexist kind of way, but he did it sort of proudly and out in the open; and he still won the Republican primary.”
Stern said he didn’t expect Trump to “seriously run for president,” but said that he’s “very proud” to host interviews where “people’s personalities come out.”
"Everyone when they interview is sort of afraid to talk like real people,” Stern said. “Now those words are biting him in the ass, but in general, we have a different kind of interviewing process than any other place. Which is why, all of the sudden, everyone, CNN, NBC, Fox, they have to turn to our tapes because it's a real conversation."
Stern has repeatedly refused to replay tapes from his past interviews with Trump, insisting it would be a “betrayal” of the businessman’s willingness to come on the show. Still, after a video surfaced featuring Trump boasting about grabbing women by the genitals, the radio host refuted Trump’s excuse that his words were just “locker room talk.”
“I have never been in the room when someone has said, 'Grab them by the pussy,'" the shock DJ said earlier this month. "No one's ever advocated going that step where you get a little bit, 'Hey I'm going to invade someone's space.'"
