KPHO 5 (a Phoenix CBS affiliate) continues to dig into the private prisons and lobbyists scandal centered in the office of Governor Jan Brewer.
Their investigation has unearthed links with SB 1070 that could send thousands of new bodies to private prisions, worth millions of dollars to the industry...
Gov. Jan Brewer’s campaign chairman and policy adviser is also a lobbyist for the largest private prison company in the country.
Chuck Coughlin is one of two people in the Brewer administration with ties to Corrections Corporation of America. The other administration member is communications director Paul Senseman, a former CCA lobbyist. His wife still lobbies for the company.
...Corrections Corporation of America holds the contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to lock up illegal immigrants picked up in Arizona. Tough immigration laws such as Arizona's SB 1070 could send thousands of new bodies its way, and millions of dollars.
Coughlin appeared on KAET TV’s “Horizon” two weeks ago. “When somebody gets arrested, they go to jail. There are no private jails. Those are public jails. ICE has said they are not taking prisoners arrested under that, so there would be no transport into the state prison system when this happens,” he told the host of “Horizon.”
But ICE’s spokesman in Phoenix told CBS 5 News the agency gets most of its detainees from local law enforcement. Records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request show Arizona agencies turned over 23,000 illegal immigrants to ICE over the past three years. Hundreds of them ended in up CCA facilities.
“Anyone who is a serious criminal or is a flight risk is more than likely going to end up in detention here in Arizona,” said Vinnie Picard from ICE.
CBS 5 News invited Coughlin to explain what he told the governor about the effects of SB 1070 on CCA, but after weeks of negotiating through e-mail, Coughlin backed out of an on-camera interview."

The Arizona Guardian followed up, asking the state's county coroners -- who would examine any body connected with a crime -- if they'd seen the headless bodies from the desert .
They hadn't.
(Although one coroner, gruesomely, told the paper they did sometimes get human skulls-- but not as a result of a fatal beheading. Such skulls are found after people die in the desert and "the animals ... get a hold of them and start moving their body parts around," the coroner said.)"
Actually illegal immigration and crime are down over the last few years in AZ.
Brewer's mindlessness about headlessness is just one of the immigration falsehoods being spread by Arizona politicians. Border violence on the rise? Phoenix becoming the world's No. 2 kidnapping capital? Illegal immigrants responsible for most police killings? The majority of those crossing the border are drug mules? All wrong...
FBI statistics show violent crime rates in all of the border states are lower than they were a decade ago -- yet Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) reports that the violence is "the worst I have ever seen." President Obama justifiably asserted last week that "the southern border is more secure today than any time in the past 20 years," yet Rush Limbaugh judged the president to be "fit for the psycho ward" on the basis of that remark."

She and McCain and Kyle whip up false hysteria about illegals which is repeated over and over by Faux news until you Beck Bots actually believe it. The woman is as dumb as a box of rocks. She blew her opening statement! Her foundation! She had nothing constructive or presented any plans in the whole debate.
There is only one choice for gov in AZ. If you on the right think Brewer is what we want from our elected officials then this country is in deeper shit than what's in your heads. But there are a lot of shit heads in AZ so we will see.
