OGDEN — Prosecutors are objecting to a request from Matthew David Stewart’s defense team for more funds for an investigator.

In court papers filed Wednesday, the Weber County Attorney’s Office asked a judge to deny the request for $15,000, because the need has not been demonstrated.

“The defendant has not demonstrated that he is entitled to the requested assistance at public expense,” the prosecution filing states.

Stewart faces the death penalty in the wake of a Jan. 4 shootout with police serving a search warrant at his home that left one officer dead and five wounded.

Stewart’s attorneys filed the motion last week requesting payment for their investigator, Kris Cantil, of “an additional amount to be authorized up to $15,000.”

the state has unlimited resources, yet object to an adequate defense funding for a capital murder case? is it because the 'victims' were the states own agents??????
