Holder in peril as Dems break ranks on contempt resolution

The congressional contempt vote against Attorney General Eric Holder is looking more and more like a fait accompli, as House Speaker John Boehner presses ahead with a Thursday floor vote and conservative Democrats one-by-one announce they will side with Republicans.

At least five Democrats so far have said they plan to vote to hold Holder in contempt over his refusal to turn over Operation Fast and Furious documents. Sources told Fox News that roughly 20 are likely to break ranks.

Should this happen, the vote would touch off a whole new legal process -- in which a U.S. attorney would be called upon to convene a grand jury to consider the allegations and whether to indict, though with Holder at the helm it's unclear how that would play out.

The two sides also will likely continue to battle over the documents at the heart of the dispute as President Obama tries to lock them down by claiming executive privilege.

Several Democrats indicated Wednesday they don't buy that argument.

"While Republicans and Democrats argue over the scope of the people's right to know what happened, the attorney general has decided to withhold relevant documents," Rep. John Barrow, D-Ga., said in a statement announcing he would support the contempt resolution. "The only way to get to the bottom of what happened is for the Department of Justice to turn over the remaining documents, so that we can work together to ensure this tragedy never happens again."

Other Democrats to announce an anti-Holder stance include Reps. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va.; Collin Peterson, D-Minn.; Jim Matheson, D-Utah; and Mike McIntyre, D-N.C.
Matheson said the public, Congress and the family of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry -- whose murder scene included weapons from the botched anti-gunrunning operation -- "deserve answers."

We have contradictory statements from Holder, lying about when he heard about it, writing statements that were flat false (like F&F didn't even exist) then taking it back later...

And we had testimony from agents that were ordered to let the guns walk.

What we want to know is not who they are going to throw under the bus (the whistleblower) what we want to know is how high up this goes. Holder testified that "neither he or his lieutenants" made any decision regarding this. So, he expects us to believe that some lower-level guy decided to go ahead with this and they only fired the guy that told on them?

Obama should have tried to stay outta the Fast and Furious problem. Once he invoked Exe privilege he looks complicit in whatever screw up Holder oversaw.

Holder is arrogant to the House. He think he is the God rules the US because he controls FBI and DEA. That’s the true face of covert totalitarian.
 
I seem to recall something about the guns having tracking devices embedded in them so they could be located after arriving at their final destination. Anyone else hear anything about that?

Yeah, me too....Too bad for Obama that program was in concert with the Mexican government, and had the plug pulled long before Obama took office. Oh, and no one died.

a similar operation was started under Bush, but some differences were it was done in complete coordination with the mexican governments knowledge and the weapons had RFID tags in them to track them. the operation was shut down because the tags were found to be faulty.

The differences between “Wide Receiver” and “Fast and Furious” (with sources cited)

•Wide Receiver - small number of guns involved: between 200 and 300 total
Fast and Furious - large number of guns involved: over 2,000 guns total

•Wide Receiver - used RFID systems to track the guns
Fast and Furious - there is no record of RFID being used to trace these guns

When the RFID tracking device were discovered by the drug gang, Wide Receiver was put to end. Yet Fast and Furious started without tracking device and the agents were told not to track.
