I believe Slovene and Russian are mutually unintelligible for the most part so he could have been helping the conversation?? Some words are similar but you would struggle to hold a conversation..

good grief -who knows?they guy was right there though -I mean there was nothing secret about it.
Maybe he was taking notes to take back, or they asked him too.
