‘Smoking gun’ emails reveal alleged meeting between Joe Biden and Ukrainian company

Explosive claims have surfaced from the hard drive of a forgotten computer – revealing an alleged meeting between Joe Biden and an adviser to a corrupt Ukrainian energy company while he was vice president and his son Hunter was on the firm’s board.
The contents of the hard drive were seized by the FBI, but a copy, handed to Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s attorney, ended up in the hands of the New York Post.
A document obtained from the hard drive showed an email from Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the board of Burisma Holdings, which expressed thanks to Hunter Biden for arranging a meeting with his father, who was then the vice president.
“Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an (sic) opportunity to meet your father and spent (sic) some time together. It’s realty (sic) an honor and pleasure,” the email said.
The meeting, in April 2015 in Washington, DC, according to the email, took place less than a year before Mr Biden pressured government officials in Ukraine to fire a prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, who was investigating the company.
Mr Biden has repeatedly claimed he kept his distance from Hunter’s business abroad.
“I’ve never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” Mr Biden said.
The revelation revives the Trump campaign’s attack against Mr Biden – claims that Hunter’s wok influenced his father’s decisions as vice president.
Mr Biden was in charge of the Ukraine portfolio during president Barack Obama’s second term.
While Mr Biden is yet to personally comment, both campaigns released statements.
“Investigations by the press, during impeachment, and even by two Republican-led Senate committees whose work was decried as ‘not legitimate’ and political by a GOP colleague have all reached the same conclusion: that Joe Biden carried out official US policy toward Ukraine and engaged in no wrongdoing,” the Biden campaign said.
“Trump Administration officials have attested to these facts under oath. The New York Post never asked the Biden campaign about the critical elements of this story.
“They certainly never raised that Rudy Giuliani — whose discredited conspiracy theories and alliance with figures connected to Russian intelligence have been widely reported — claimed to have such materials.
“Moreover, we have reviewed Joe Biden’s official schedules from the time and no meeting, as alleged by the New York Post, ever took place.”
The Trump campaign said Biden campaign’s statement substantiated the report by not disputing the authenticity of the emails.
“The Biden campaign does not dispute the authenticity of the emails published by the New York Post, which serves to confirm that they are real. And if Joe Biden never met with Vadym Pozharskyi, the Biden campaign would say so. They do not say that,” The Trump campaign said.
“Their answer basically is that the entry ‘meeting with Ukrainian businessmen buying access to the vice president’ does not appear on Joe Biden’s official schedule.
“Their response is so carefully worded that it reveals the truth in what they don’t deny.
“They also don’t address the overarching question of why Joe Biden lied to the American people about never discussing with Hunter Biden his corrupt business dealings with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
“Americans deserve a full accounting of the conversations Joe Biden had with Hunter, and what Joe Biden discussed with Vadym Pozharskyi.”
