The sciences will see a 75% reduction in new PhD slots, and departments in the arts and humanities will see a reduction of 60%, reports The Harvard Crimson.

A source has confirmed that the Department of Philosophy is affected by the cuts. It will have to reduce the number of incoming PhD students for 2026 and 2027 from its typical 5 to 6 per year to a total of 4 over the next two years.

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences slashed the number of Ph.D. student admissions slots for the Science division by more than 75 percent and for the Arts & Humanities division by about 60 percent for the next two years.
