Recently, the subject of IQ came up. The average IQ of the US is 98. I blame the dumbing down of our education system as part of the problem....and I'm not just blaming the Republicans here for trying to kill the public education system for 30 years. The Democrats share part of the blame in their rush to make everybody equal regardless of IQ, talents or other abilities.

The IQ discussion gave me an incentive to research the subject a bit and I came across these two articles:

Agreed with all of these although, pushing 70, midnight is about as late as I can go (#3). That coupled with 28 years of getting up at the crack of dawn have conditioned me to be an early riser, even if going to bed late which results in me being tired all the following day.

#11 with a caveat; although looking at abstract art is interesting, I'm not an aficionado. Instrumental music is among my favorites though. I like classical and modern instrumental music, especially movie soundtracks by composers like Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer and James Horner, plus groups like 2CELLOS, Audiomachine and Bond.

Agree with all 11 of these with a caveat on #9. I'd never intentionally ridicule or seek to harm a person that is handicapped either mentally or physically IRL. Online is a different issue when such people are the ones initially spreading the harm or ridicule.

The problem with online lists like that is there isn't much science to them. They are created to make people feel good about themselves.

The first list could be applied to introverts and be just as accurate as the claim it's what high IQ people do.

That being said, I hate it when my wife decides she needs to "clean up" my space and suddenly I can't find something where I put it on top of that second pile from the left.

Agreed on the "clean up" by the wife.

Agreed to some extent on the lists, but there is data on the subject*. One method of analysis is to compare all the lists to look for common traits. Additionally, go the other way and compare lists of traits of lower than average intelligent people. Then, of course, there's the fact that dumber people tend to be MAGAts and more intelligent people are left of far right. :D

IQ is a complex issue and often combined with upbringing, including nutrition and education, along with genetics. A person can be a genetic genius yet, being raised in a primitive society, may be illiterate...although they would learn more quickly than others.

Another factor is the concept that there are different types of intelligence. Although there's some credence to Gardner's multiple intelligence theory, there's a lot more evidence supporting the general intelligence theory. I'm fairly smart and am well-educated, but I can't do calculus to save my life. Trig is as high as I could ever go. Calculus makes my head hurt. LOL OTOH, I have other talents.

Another factor is that Western IQ tests tend to be Eurocentric; usually the 3 R's. This makes measuring non-western people problematic.

Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences proposes that intelligence is not a single ability but a collection of distinct types. He identified eight intelligences, including linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. Gardner’s theory suggests that everyone has different strengths and learning styles across these areas.

1. Thriving in a cluttered space - my house in a constant state of clutter.

2. Talking to themselves often - either aloud or in my head.

3. Staying up late - I never turn in before 2 am

4. Prioritizing and enjoying alone time often ✓ - I get plenty of "me time".

5. Constantly questioning things - Who are you to determine that???

6. Forgetting things occasionally - fairly often.

7. Using sarcasm - yeah, right.

8. Swearing a lot - no shit.

9. Doodling - I used to be an above average sketch artist so I doodled a lot.

10. Procrastination ✓ - yes, but I usually do it later.

11. Enjoying abstract art and instrumental music - define abstract. I like all kinds of both.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟭𝟭 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗜𝗤 𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻:

1. Small talk or chit-chatting to fill silence - I like to talk to people and can't stand when someone just sits there like a stone.

2. Spreading gossip or drama - Almost never. I despise gossip and those who spread it.

3. Binge-watching brainless shows or doomscrolling - I never binge watch but I do doom scroll a bit.

4. Over-the-top positivity that feels fake - I hate those people.

5. Playing it safe and never taking risks - I can't deny that I have always been careful about the way I live.

6. Jokes that rely on stereotypes or cheap shots I'm not above that.

7. Chasing trends to fit in - Never. I hate people who do, too

8. Loud parties and packed crowds - if it's outside I don't mind, but I always hated loud parties where I didn't know anyone but they all knew each other.

9. Making jokes about mental illness - I've told the occasional retard joke. So what.

10. Games that rely on dumb luck - the only game I play is Free Cell Solitaire, which relies on a combination of skill and luck

11. Obsessing over celebrities - I hate celebrities. That's the closest I come to obsessing over them.... my obsessive hatred of them.

I've never particularly liked gossip, drama, and raucous parties, but I do like binge watching sometimes!

You basically checked the boxes with me.

Boy howdy on that last one! My wife is getting worse at that as we hit our 70s. I tell her the same thing my dad told me, “Keep yer mitts off my stuff!”

Now, just 5 minutes ago, she starts fiddling with the alarm on my oven that I’m baking in and accidentally turns it off. Grrrrrrr

Might I suggest you buy a few of these and keep rolling until you get a number you like...? It'll be about as accurate as any online IQ test is...
