According to Norwegian police and posts he has made online, Breivik supports far-right idealogies and has called for the formation of a "cultural Euro-Tea Party" referring to the grass-roots right-wing organisation in the US supported by Sarah Palin.

He has an apparent in-depth knowledge of political philosophy, and is registered as the owner of a "geo farm" something which would mean he could order several tonnes of fertiliser, a known bomb-making component, unchallenged.

He would also have spent time in the Norwegian armed services doing national service, giving him the gun skills he is alleged to have used to such catastrophic effect.

Breivik shows he has an interest and deep, current knowledge of UK far-right politics. In one posting he called for the establishment of a "Norwegian EDL" and he claims to have had contact with it and another far-right organisation, Stop the Islamification of Europe.

Other posts under Breivik's name criticise European policies of trying to accommodate the cultures of different ethnic groups...

The 32-year-old former member of the country's conservative Progress Party – who had become ever more extreme in his hatred of Muslims, left wingers and the country's political establishment – had ordered six tonnes of fertiliser in May to be used in the bombing. While police continued to interrogate Breivik, who was charged with the mass killings, evidence of his increasingly far right world view emerged from an article he had posted on several Scandinavian websites, including Nordisk – a site frequented by neo-Nazis, far right radicals and Islamophobes since 2009.

The Norwegian daily VG quoted one of Breivik's friends saying that he had become a rightwing extremist in his late 20s and was now a strong opponent of multi-culturalism, expressing strong nationalistic views in online debates.

Breivik's Facebook page was blocked, but a cached version describes a conservative Christian...

The Norwegian police on Saturday charged a man they identified as a right-wing fundamentalist Christian in connection with a bombing in central Oslo and a shooting attack on a nearby island that killed at least 92 people.

He was described as a gun-loving, highly religious Norwegian obsessed with what he saw as the threat of multiculturalism and Muslim immigration to the cultural and patriotic values of his country.

“We are not sure whether he was alone or had help,” a police official, Roger Andresen, said at a televised news conference. “What we know is that he is right-wing and a Christian fundamentalist.”

The police said Saturday evening that they expected the death toll to climb. There were still bodies in the bombed government buildings in Oslo, where at least seven people had been confirmed dead, and at least four people missing on Utoya.

The police also said that unexploded munitions were still in some downtown Oslo buildings, and they had not ruled out the possibility that Mr. Breivik had accomplices.

The horror of the attack on a political summer camp on Utoya Island, a remarkably meticulous attack on Norway’s current and future political elite, also came into focus on Saturday as witnesses told their stories. It was an hour of hell that left at least 85 people dead, some as young as 16.

As soon as the shooting started, they said, people panicked, running in all directions, tumbling down the island’s rocky hill in an attempt to reach the sea. Even after many made it into the water, the gunman calmly and methodically shot at those who were swimming.

“People right behind me were shot,” said Helen Andreassen, 21, a political adviser for the Labor Party’s youth wing, which runs the camp each year. “I heard shots right behind me. He was standing just by the water, using his rifle, just taking his time, aiming and shooting. It was a slaughter of young children.”

Wearing a police uniform, the gunman at one point emerged from the forest and persuaded several youths who had sought refuge on the shore to come to him, said Stine Renate Haheim, 27, a Labor Party member of Parliament, who was also among those hiding.
Then he opened fire.

“He shot a boy in the back,” Ms. Haheim said. “I saw that some people were falling, and we turned around and ran. At that point I didn’t look back.”

The police are working on the assumption that Mr. Breivik, having drawn security services to central Oslo when he exploded a car bomb outside government offices, then traveled to Utoya Island dressed as a police officer.

Once there, he said he had come to check on the security of the young political campers, gathered them together and proceeded, coldly, to shoot them and then hunt down those who fled.

He was equipped, the police said, with an automatic rifle and a handgun; when the police finally got to the island, about 40 minutes after the shooting started, Mr. Breivik surrendered when they called out to him, dropping his weapons.

Utoya is a wooded retreat accessible only by boat about 19 miles northwest of Oslo. The police said that difficulty reaching the island delayed their response.

Most of the 600 campers, many from political families, had gathered in the main assembly building for a briefing on the bombing in Oslo. Relatives of many of the youths worked in the vicinity of the blast.

Norway’s prime minister, Jens Stoltenberg, was scheduled to speak to the campers; a former leader of Labor’s youth wing, he had attended the camp every summer since 1974.

Norwegian analysts said that these right-wing groups were very small, having shrunk considerably since the 1990s, and had been quiet.

Even the Progress Party, which began as an anti-tax protest and has been stridently anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim in the past, has moved more to the center, to the point that it is seen as a potential coalition partner for the Conservative Party in the 2013 general election.

Mr. Breivik had been a member of the Progress Party but quit in 2006, disappointed by its move toward moderation; his Internet postings also indicate contempt for the Conservative Party. He said it had given up a serious battle against multiculturalism, which he said was diluting the nation’s character...

I just watched a video at
. Unfortunately, YouTube removed it. :(

(Excerpt) 2 hours 23 min ago - Norway

A video on YouTube promoting a fight against Islam apparently shows photos of Anders Breivik, wearing a wetsuit and pointing an automatic weapon, said the AP news agency.

The picture [shown below] appears at the end of an approximately 12-minute video called "Knights Templar 2083".

The pictures in the video also appeared on the now closed Facebook page belonging to Breivik.

A Norwegian discussion website also had the link to a 1,500-page book called "2083 - A European Declaration of Independence".

It is not possible to verify who uploaded the video, which was posted on July 22 by Andrew Berwick, an anglicised version of Anders Breivik and the name also used by the author of the declaration book. (End)

What I found surprising was the similarity between the views expressed in the video and the sentiments expressed by certain posters here, specifically, the fear of Islamification.

(Excerpt) Stop Islamisation of Europe (SIOE), also known as Stop the Islamification of Europe, is a group opposed to Muslim immigration. It is a political interest group which has been active in Denmark and has conducted anti-Islamic protests in the United Kingdom. The group originated out of the joining of the Danish group Stop Islamiseringen af Danmark(da) with English anti-Islam activists.

The group's proclaimed aim is to oppose Islamic extremism; they have the motto "Racism is the lowest form of human stupidity, but Islamophobia is the height of common sense". (End)

I don't find it surprising at all.

“Breivik feels that multiculturalism is destroying the society and that the enforcing authority is the prime minister and the Labor Party, the lead party of contemporary Norwegian politics,” said Anders Romarheim, a fellow at the Norwegian Institute for Defense Studies. “No other political party has a political camp like this one.”

Mr. Brievik’s Internet postings are “all about conserving values,” Mr. Romarheim said. “It’s coherent, not rambling, with a lot of intensity.”

There are bound to be questions about whether the Norwegian security services and police, which had been concentrating on threats of Islamic terrorism, missed the threat from the anti-Islamic right.

“This is the Norwegian equivalent to Timothy McVeigh,” the right-wing American who blew up a government building in Oklahoma City in 1995, said Marcus Buck, a political scientist at the University of Tromso in northern Norway.

“This is right-wing domestic terrorism, and the big question is to what extent Norwegian agencies have diverted their attention from what they knew decades ago was the biggest threat” and instead focused on threats from militant Islamist groups.

That's not his. That's a picture and nothing more. There is nothing to identify this nut as a Christian. Only a bigot would do what you're doing.
