A new USA Today/Galluphttp://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-04-01/swing-states-poll/53930684/1 poll shows President Obama's lead over Mitt Romney widening among women.

The poll, a sampling of registered voters in 12 swing states, finds that while Romney lags by a whopping 18 points, 54 percent to 36 percent, in the women's vote.

That means Obama's nine-point lead over Romney in the poll can be entirely attributed to the women's vote.

The gulf is even wider among younger women, according to USA Today: More than 60 percent of the women under 50 in the poll support Obama, while just 30 percent support Romney -- a drop of 14 points from a similar poll conducted in mid-February.

According to cross-tabs provided to me by Gallup, Obama also leads among men under 50 (53-41) and women over 50 (48-42).

Yup, the GOP is becoming a party of geezers. Look at the demographics of Fox News. It's mostly white males over 50.

I posted on another forum that it was white males over 65. Another poster asked; Age or I.Q.? I responded; "Either".

What worries me is that the GOP, seeing the demographic, will change their approach and the voter will follow.

No one ever got in trouble for underestimating the intelligence of the average voter. And memory spans tend to be about as long as a tv commercial.

Ah, you are talking men voters here, WB, women don't forget!

What surprised me was the Republicons showed their true colors during an election year. They should have known that unleashing their mouthpiece Limbaugh and denying healthcare would cause a backlash among women. Do they really believe this is the way to get women to vote for them? Or are they so out of touch that they don't realize their views are outdated and offensive?

Trying to win an election by alienating women and minorities! LOL!

Good bye and good riddance to the Teapublicons. LOL!

Hasn't it always been a party of somewhat older people? Maybe there were more young Republicans back in the day but considering the number of current Republicans that were once Democrats or liberals in your their youth it's doesn't seem surprising (to me at least) that the party trends older.

You just don't understand. GOD is on the GOP side. When GOD is on your side who can win against you?

All I can say is if the GOP has any serious intentions of being competative they had better!

I think you do have a point there but what I think was key to the Republican revolution of the 90's was the ground work done by the GOP with college aged people in the 80's. I was openly recruited by Republicans in college and many in my cohort who went to college had a similiar experience where as Democrats felt comfortable with their labor constituency and I heard literally nothing from them. Republicans ended up co-opting that generatrion. However, they had some moderation so as to appeal to the younger generation. I remember the war we had with social conservatives in my area who were predominantly Catholic and only gave a rats ass about the abortion issue. We kept trying to get it into their head that single issue activist get no where and are fodder for political operatives and that we could not grow the future of the party with either single issue causes or social conservatism. We were hugely focused on main street economic issues, recruiting, and growing the base with a youth movement to assure its future.

We butted heads with social conservatives and conservative ideologues again and again and again until I think they just wore people like me out. The Republican party of today is far, far removed from the party I joined in 1980.

Democrats now are doing a far better job at attracting todays youth. They are doing a much better job of organizing and recruiting college aged people to be active in politics. Where as the GOP has grown older, more ideological and more rigid in it's thinking and its approach to governing. This and the growing urbanization/suburbanization of our population does not bode well for the Republican parties near long term future.

Yep, I think they are taking a Red Solo Cup approach. :(

That or Democrats are getting the last laugh on the "community organizer" approach. BTW, what is a "Red Solo Cup Approach"?

Red Solo cups, those large plastic cups used at keg parties or to play Beer pong. That is the only red Solo cups I know about.

The sexist attitudes of many male Righties on this site are typical of the patriarchal beliefs of the shambling conservative dinosaurs that infest the GOP.
