“For years I've talked about the need to fix Social Security so that our children and grandchildren can count on it to be there for them just like it’s there for today’s seniors and individuals with disabilities,” said Johnson. “My commonsense plan is the start of a fact-based conversation about how we do just that. I urge my colleagues to also put pen to paper and offer their ideas about how they would save Social Security for generations to come. Americans want, need, and deserve for us to finally come up with a solution to saving this important program.”

he doesnt expect it to pass just to start conversation.

In other words more wasted time on bullshit.
Go GOP

Any potential fixes for S.S. get met with "they want to kill S.S." So what's the responsible thing to do? Do nothing until it's too late?
Read Robert Reich, he says you have bought into the GOP bs, there are solutions without privitazation.

I read Robert Reich, the man's a borderline socialist. He's exhibit A in the "doing anything to S.S. is trying to kill it". You need to read others on the topic but to get a full perspective on the subject

Adjust the ceiling of the contribution tax for the rate of inflation. Raise the ceiling higher than that if necessary and if that falls short, Which I doubt, then raise taxes taxes on the wealthiest to bridge the gap. They can certainly afford to do their patriotic duty to uphold our nations social contract towards those who worked their whole lives to produce their wealth.

Let's be clear and cut to the chase. Given political will correcting the SS shortfall is an easy fix. What this is really about is a bunch of avaricious investment bankers wanting to privatize SS revenue so they can enrich themselves further while putting our seniors supplental retirement income at dire risk.

I sure as hell don't want my SS money placed into the tender mercies of Wall Street so some hedge fund manager can afford a sixth vacation mansion in the Hamptons. I mean what could possibly go wrong?

I do read others, but I find he has common sense solutions, instead of throwing it to the wolves of Wall Street.

Gee what your calling a fix is what most everyone else would call a giant government redistribution of wealth to the wealthiest group of people in our nation while threatening the secure retirement of the vast majority of Americans. Hey you want to trust a scam artist like Jim Cramer with your retirement be my guest but keep your hands off of my SS.

The cap was raised to $127,200 for 2017.....
Lower income workers pay the SS tax on every penny they earn, now up to that cap.
Exactly what is the down side to raising the cap as needed ? Not the rates, just the cap.

How much should higher wage workers be forced to save? Otherwise you are turning it into a means tested system which many liberals don't want because they feel S.S would be easier to get rid of in such a senario

Get real .. republicans aren't quite stupid enough to cut SS.

Remember the last time they floated this dumb ass idea?

They ran from it.
