Every truther I run into, I try to explain to them that they absolutely positively cannot help the cause of limited government by mixing it up with their conspiracy views.
I'm not saying there aren't otherwise intelligent and decent people who espouse these views, they just seemingly have no idea of the political reality of what they're trying to do.
They cannot educate the country about their views on that subject and also make it the basis (or even a peripheral detail) of a winning campaign for public office. You can't even educate people about policies half the country already takes seriously in most campaigns. It would be an understatement to call what they want an uphill battle. It's insanity.
It can only sink a campaign, and I remember distinctly during the Paul campaign and now even in libertarian youth organizations, campaign for liberty, and the Audit the Fed/End the Fed movement today how much people were/are struggling to keep the truthers from mixing their absolutely nuclear pet issue with their policy issue and candidate activism.
